John Krasinski may be best known for his role on “The Office,” among other television shows and movies, but his kids still aren’t too keen on his fame. During a recent visit to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the “Quiet Place” star revealed that her daughters, Hazel, 8, and Violet, 6, have some confusion about her time on the hit show.
“So What’s the Problem With This Office Thing?”

“They really just started watching ‘The Office.’ By the way, started watching, I showed them an episode,” he said when Colbert asked if they had seen the show. “Their actual quote, we were driving, and from the back seat I heard, ‘So what’s up with this Office thing?’ I was like, okay, that’s a big question, we’ll cut it down in bite-sized pieces. So Emily was like, just show me the pilot.”
John Krasinski’s Daughter Thinks She Works In The Office

Krasinski’s daughter, who he shares with wife Emily Blunt, has little confusion about what their father does for a living. They think he actually works in a real office. “The reason I think it’s because I took them to school one day, and this guy came over, and he was so nice, he said, ‘John! From ‘The Office,’” he explained. “I went, ‘Yes,’ and he said, ‘Oh my God, I’m so glad to see you,’ and I said, ‘Thank you’ and he kept walking.”
After witnessing this exchange, the actor’s daughter asked, “So, you work with him?” to which he replied, “No.” “And he goes, ‘Why did you lie to me?,'” he continued. “I went, ‘I’m not lying to you.’ He said, ‘No, he just said he knew you from the office.'”
Watching the episode with the girls raises more questions for Krasinski to talk about his ways. “They watched the first episode and my oldest, it turns out he’s a screen talker, so he talks to the screen. When Steve fired Jenna, he said, ‘What are you doing?’ then he said, ‘You’re a horrible person,’” she said. He then jokingly told her, “‘You should meet Steve Carrell.'”
Violet Didn’t Think It Was Her Dad On TV Because He Looked Different

The confusion and questions don’t end with Hazel. Violet also had a few things to say. “My 6-year-old kept asking, ‘Is that you?’ And he said, ‘You look so different.’ I was like, ‘I’m going to try not to take that as a hurtful thing,’ but sure enough, I said, ‘No, it’s me, I’m just playing a character,’ and he said ‘Pfff, that’s not you,'” she has explained .” Then we watched two more episodes, and he said, ‘That’s not you. That guy looks a lot like you.”
Colbert suggested maybe showing the kids the UK version of the show that aired from 2001 to 2003, but Krasinski already had an idea of his daughter’s reaction. “He’ll love it,” she said. “Then he would say, ‘Do you have an English version?’ And I would say, ‘Yes.'”
The Girls “Forgot” About Their Parents’ Fame Until Recently

When Colbert asked Krasinksi if his kids thought he was great because he was on TV, he said his wife had a “great start” because she was on “Mary Poppins.” “I think my kids think he married me out of charity, they’re like, ‘It’s so good of you to marry an accountant’ like that’s so good for you because they don’t know what I do,” she said with a laugh.
Last year, Blunt told The Sunday Times that the girls are “oblivious” to their parents’ fame, and that’s something she wants to stay that way. “If they can be unconscious for the longest time I will be excited,” he said. “They don’t want to see what I do. They don’t like it when I wear makeup. They don’t like it. They just want me to be their mother.”
