The actor revealed the extent of his addiction, admitting that he used a lot of cocaine and other drugs. According to him, the group includes a line-up of famous comedians over 40 years old, such as Fred Armisen and Nick Kroll. ET shared that Mulaney referred to the gathering as “We Are the World” alternative comedians of the late Michael Jackson.
The writer addressed the sold-out audience saying, “Let me say this now; I don’t mean weird. It was a star-studded intervention. It was, like, a good group. As angry as I was when I walked there, I was like, this is a good line; this flatters the way.”
He added, “It’s like the ‘We Are the World’ of over-40s alternative comedians. All comedians. But nobody said anything funny all night.” The 40-year-old revealed that before he arrived, the group had agreed to refrain from making light jokes or comments to emphasize the seriousness of the situation.
The producer explained that when he arrived, he was very agitated and experiencing cocaine withdrawal symptoms. She stated that despite her discomfort, no one would let her out of the room to freshen up and noted that it was challenging to sit in the same room as the funniest person she knew but not hear any jokes or comedic remarks.
The “Human Giant” guest star recounted the experience saying, “Fred Armisen is serious. Do you know how frustrating that is?” He didn’t do a character or a voice. He said, ‘Hey, John, I’m worried about everything you’re going through.’ And I was like, ‘Ah, next! Next!'”
The “Ugly Americans” voice actor revealed that he initially felt angry and betrayed by his closest friends, who advocated for intervention to help him deal with his addiction.

He sees the intervention as a prank that has stripped him of control over his life and resents that his friends have conspired to send him to rehab for an extended period, leaving him feeling helpless and angry.
However, upon reflection, he expressed his gratitude, stating, “Doing this show and standing here, listen, I thank everyone for my intervention. They intervened. They confronted me, and they saved my life.”
