Jon Favreau recently sat down with IMDB where he revealed some ideas he has for a new attraction that could potentially reside at Disneyland Park in California.
“I might do something really exciting. I’ll probably do something with functional haptics. I’ll probably use assets that we used in Volume,” Favreau told IMDB, referencing the technology used in “The Mandalorian.”
The Volume is a “large, state-of-the-art video wall that can render complex backgrounds faster than ever before,” per the report.
Disneyland Park now has an entire “Star Wars” themed section called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which houses two attractions — Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — meaning, the new “Mandalorian” ride will fit right in. .
“I think there should be an educational component, but not an educational one like a plaque-reading museum,” Favreau went on to say about the possibility of a new ride. “Education, like, sit here, feel this and this is how we do it.”
Jon Favreau is the showrunner/head writer of “The Mandalorian” and serves as an executive producer along with Dave Filoni, Rick Famuyiwa, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. In the past, Favreau has spoken about the use of CGI and technology in films such as the remake of “The Lion King” and the live-action film “The Jungle Book”, something he pushed the boundaries while making “The Mandalorian”.
“Whether it’s display screens, virtual reality, augmented reality, real-time rendering, game engine technology, all of these weave back and forth and inform each other. Machine learning allows many technologies to be accelerated,” he said in a previous interview with Variety. “We need to always be careful not to let progress get ahead of us and always have a human element that informs how technology is used. I think storytelling is a very important point of connection.”
