Judge in Trump Jan. 6 case is scion of Marxist revolutionaries

The judge assigned to some of former President Trump’s indictments stemming from his efforts to nullify the 2020 presidential election is a descendant of a revolutionary Marxist family in his native Jamaica.

Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, an Obama appointee, is the granddaughter of Frank Hill, a Jamaican communist revolutionary, who along with his brother Ken was briefly imprisoned by the island’s British governor during World War II on suspicion of “subversive activity.”

Hill is the father of Noelle Hill, Judge Chutkan’s mother, according to public records.

Frank, along with his brother Ken Hill, and comrades Richard Hart and Arthur Henry, were expelled from the Jamaican People’s National Party for espousing communist views, according to local Jamaican media.

“Ken Hill, by far the most influential, is more pragmatic and less concerned with political theory than most members of the left. He may have come to think of himself as a communist both through the influence of his brother Frank and his observation of the course of world events,” Hart wrote of the brothers in Towards Decolonization: Politics, Labor and Economic Development in Jamaica 1938–1945 – a tome he published in 1999.

Judge Chutkan has raised suspicions among conservatives about what they assert is politically motivated bias from the bench.

Earlier this month, Rep. Florida’s Matt Gaetz introduced a resolution calling for Judge Chutkan to be censured and investigated for “open bias and partiality in the performance of his official duties” citing his past comments of support for Black Lives Matter rioters in 2020.
