In an interview with Australian stories in the midst of his battle with stage three non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer, Sam Neill expressed less fear of death but instead a sense of exasperation.
While discussing his recent chemotherapy failure, the “Jurassic Park” star stated, “I’m not at all afraid of dying. It doesn’t worry me. It never bothered me in the first place, but I would be angry.”
However, Neill admitted, per Daily Mail, that while he’s not afraid to die, he would “really love another decade or two.” He elaborated on his desire for more time, adding: “We have built all these beautiful terraces, we have these olive trees and firs, and I want to be around to see them all mature. And I have my adorable grandchildren. I want to see them grow up.”
Neil has been in remission for a year, crediting anti-cancer drugs, but admits the potential future challenges of the disease and shares that he is “prepared” for when the drugs will stop working. “I know I have it, but I’m not really interested in it. However, despite his health challenges, Neill is determined not to retire. He continues to derive pleasure from his work in front of the camera and appreciates the collaborative aspect of acting with other performers.
