Kader Khan was born on 22 October 1937 (age 81 years; as in 2018) in Kabul, Afghanistan. When Kader was one year old, his family migrated to Mumbai because they had a superstition that the place they lived in was cursed and had brought bad luck into their lives. Unfortunately, moving to Mumbai did not bring any sustenance but worsened his family’s situation. He enrolled in the local municipal school, but often skipped classes because he had no shoes. He spends his days in a nearby cemetery impersonating people. There was nothing to cherish about his childhood and even his hope was extinguished when his parents separated. His decision to move in with his mother turned out to be wrong because his stepfather treated him badly. Later, he completed his studies at Ismail Yusuf College, University of Mumbai and obtained a Master’s Diploma in Engineering (MIE) with a specialization in civil engineering from the Institution of Engineers (India). In 1970, Khan joined MH Saboo Siddik College of Engineering in Byculla as a Mathematics teacher. In addition to teaching, he used to participate in college plays. As a theater artist, he receives ₹350 per play. While Kader was performing in a play at the college’s Annual Day function, actor Dilip Kumar noticed him and signed him up for his next film Bairaag and Sagina Mahato.

Kader Khan belongs to the Kakar tribe of the Pashtun Community and follows Islam. He is the son of Abdul Rehman Khan and Iqbal Begum. Kader has three brothers namely, Shams ur Rehman, Fazal Rehman, and Habib ur Rehman. Kader is a Hafiz-e-Quran (one who has memorized the Quran).
He is married to Hajra Khan. The couple has three sons.
His eldest son Abdul Quddus Khan lives in Canada and works as a security officer at the airport. His son Sarfaraz Khan is an actor, and has worked in films like ‘Tere Naam’ and ‘Wanted.’ Kader’s youngest son Shahnawaz Khan has been an assistant director for films like ‘Humko Tumse Pyaar Hain,’ ‘Vaada,’ and ‘Milenge Milenge.’ He has shared the screen with his father in the comedy film, ‘Nawabi Sharabi.’
Kader has a grandson, Hamzaa Khan (son of Sarfaraz).
Career
In 1973, Kader marked his Bollywood debut with the film, ‘Daag’ in which he played the role of a prosecuting attorney. He is recognized for playing supporting roles in films starring Amitabh Bachchan, Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, and Govinda.
Kader has worked with comedians like Shakti Kapoor and Johnny Lever. In 1974, he was paid one lakh twenty one thousand to write dialogues for the film, ‘Roti.’ He also starred in the comedy series “Hasna Mat” aired on Star Plus.

In addition to acting, his writing career also developed rapidly when he co-wrote the romantic comedy film ‘Jawani Diwani.’ He received ₹1,500 for the film. After that, he wrote dialogues for several successful films including ‘Coolie No.1,’ ‘Himmatwala,’ ‘Kanoon Apna Apna,’ ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari,’ ‘Khoon Bhari Maang,’ ‘Karma Sultanat,’ ‘Sarfarosh, ‘ and ‘Dharam Veer.’ He has written many memorable dialogues for Amitabh Bachchan in films like ‘Mr. Natwarlal,’ ‘Do Aur Do Paanch,’ ‘Hum,’ ‘Satte Pe Satta,’ and ‘Agneepath.’ He also wrote screenplays for Agneepath and Naseeb, which were big hits at the box office.

Death
On December 31, 2018, he died at 6 pm Canadian time due to prolonged illness. He was in the hospital for 3-4 months.
