Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be admitting she’s having trouble getting her and President Biden’s message home to black voters — saying the pair need to “get us re-elected” in 2024.
Harris, in an interview with CNN published Sunday, suggested that the Biden administration’s “extremely long” list of accomplishments for black Americans makes it difficult to get the message across.
“In some ways,” he told the outlet, “actually, there may be obstacles, because the list is very long, and we have to try things that we repeat over and over again to make sure that it resonates and that it’s really heard. .”
Harris, who rarely gives interviews, has long been bullish about the Biden campaign’s chances of winning, arguing that the stakes are too high given former President Donald Trump’s chances of winning the GOP nomination.
However, he stressed that the Biden-Harris campaign is not taking re-election lightly.
“We have to get our re-election, there’s no doubt about it,” he told CNN during a phone interview aboard Air Force Two after a trip earlier this month to formally file for the Democratic primary in South Carolina.

A flood of Democrats have voiced frustration with the campaign’s messaging strategy more broadly, upset at an election in which voters gave Biden poor marks on the economy despite low unemployment.
Republicans have long bashed Biden on inflation and his energy policies.
Many Democrats, such as former press secretary to the First Lady, Michael LaRosa, have demanded a recalibration of messaging and urged Biden to drop the “Bidenomics” rhetoric.
Harris touted the administration’s efforts to fight for issues that many young voters care about such as fighting climate change, curbing gun violence, protecting abortion rights and more.
“The president has been firm, he has been firm, he has consistently looked at the challenges facing young people in America and addressed them with real solutions,” he told CNN.

He also clarified that he was not comparing “this cycle to what previous vice presidents did in re-election.”
“I have a great sense of duty and responsibility to do as much as I can, to be in people’s places and not only talk to them, but listen to them and tell them what we have achieved.”
Recently, many younger Democrats appear to have split with party elders over Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

South Carolina’s primary on February 3, 2024, will be the first recognized primary contest for Democrats, although New Hampshire plans to hold an earlier unsanctioned contest.
The 2024 general election will take place on 5 November 2024.
