Days after publicly confirming her exit from the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” franchise, Kandi Burruss is ready to share the reasons behind her shocking decision.
The multi-hyphenated star recently reflected on her Grammy red carpet moment, where she announced her departure from the Bravo reality series. The former Xscape member addressed the matter in his YouTube series, “Speak on It,” revealing his announcement didn’t go as planned.
Kandi Burruss Wants To Spend More Time With Her Family
Although Burruss made waves for his surprise announcement at the Grammys, he admitted that he never wanted to break the news at the music awards event. The singer-songwriter says the cat is out of the bag at this point, which is why she decided to dive into her reasons for leaving “RHOA.”
After spending 14 seasons, Burruss admitted it was time to test new waters and focus on his family. She explained that certain “mom duties” became possible following her absence from the reality TV series.
“My mother had to undergo cataract surgery; I was able to take him and fix his eyes and be there [her] when he gets out of there,” the 47-year-old began, adding that he also took time to check on his children.
“Riley got her eyes fixed because, baby, we can’t see honey. So I got to take her. I got to take Ace and Blaze to their annual date,” Burruss continued before raving about her motherly duties. In her words:
“Like I’m doing real mom work, and I’m loving it. I’m like, now, I know this has nothing to do with making money, but I probably wouldn’t be there for every one of those things if I didn’t have a little extra time on my hands .”
The singer-songwriter’s reference to “a little extra time” on her hands is about the break Bravo is giving cast members while they figure out what will happen to the housewives in the upcoming season. However, Burruss grew tired of playing the waiting game and found more satisfying things to do.
In his Grammy announcement, he emphasized that the show’s contestants took too long to decide on their next move. This helped him realize his desire to spend more time with his family and work on projects outside of the show, such as the recently released Prime Video comedy “The Underdoggs.”
Fortunately, Burruss isn’t done with his story on “RHOA” as he’s open to returning to the franchise. While her Bravo future remains unknown, fans can enjoy all the multi-hyphenate star has to offer right now.

Burruss shared a snippet of the “Speak on It” episode on Instagram, generating several supportive comments from fans. Naturally, many were saddened by her exit from “RHOA,” but they were happy to encourage her to move on.

Additionally, a wave of support poured throughout the comments section of Burruss’ YouTube channel. One fan observed that “RHOA” executive producer Andy Cohen allegedly never addressed the departure of any of the housewives except for the Grammy winner.
