Kangaroo wreaks havoc at Florida apartment complex, sends police on wild chase

A roaming kangaroo was captured by police after it was spotted running rampant at an apartment complex in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday morning.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that officers received a 911 call from someone who claimed to have seen a kangaroo jumping around their apartment complex north of Tampa.

“911 do you need police, fire or medic,” the dispatcher is heard asking in audio released by police.

“I think the police. There’s a kangaroo in my apartment complex,” the female caller was heard replying.

In the footage, the elusive kangaroo is seen hopping around the apartment complex’s pool deck.

“I actually saw a kangaroo,” an officer was heard saying in disbelief. “It’s a big kangaroo.”

“We closed it in the pool gate area,” the official added.

The footage shows officials sneaking near the drowning animal until they finally pull it back into the enclosure.

Officials said that the kangaroo had escaped earlier from its owner’s house.

It was later returned after the sheriff’s office’s Agricultural Unit verified proper registration for ownership.

No injuries to kangaroos or any people were reported.
