Kansas City Chiefs fan who hosted watch party where three friends froze to death checks into rehab

A Kansas City Chiefs fan who said he slept for two days while three friends froze to death in his backyard has checked into rehab, according to a report.

Jordan Willis, 38, “faced his addiction head-on,” a source close to the family told Fox News Digital, calling his friends’ deaths a “huge wake-up call.”

“After the shocking deaths of three close friends in very tragic circumstances, Jordan realized that he had a problem with addiction,” the source said, without elaborating on its nature.

“He immediately checked himself into rehab after vacating his home and putting his belongings into storage.”

The bodies of Willis’ friends — Ricky Johnson, 38, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and David Harrington, 37 — were found outside his Kansas City rental late on January 9.

The three men were last seen alive two days earlier, at a small viewing party for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Jan. 7 playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

A fifth friend, Alex Waemer-Lee, said he left the gathering around 11 p.m. Jan. 7 while the four remaining men watched “Jeopardy!,” said Willis’ attorney, Andrew Talge.

The bodies were found nearly two days later, when McGeeney’s worried fiancé broke into the Willis’ property and found one of them frozen in the yard.

Willis – who was wearing underwear and holding a wine glass when police arrived – claimed to have slept for almost two days and said he was unaware his friends were dead outside.

Toxicology reports on the dead men are still pending — although two of them were seen arriving at Willis with two 30-packs of beer, a neighbor told Fox News Digital.

Waemer-Lee also allegedly sent text messages to another friend about drug use at Willis’ house during the viewing party, the outlet added.

Experts have shown that alcohol or drugs like fentanyl or related analogs could have caused the man to pass out in the snow and succumb to the 30-degree weather, Fox noted.

Although police say the case is not being investigated as foul play, some of the dead man’s loved ones claim Willis played some role in their unfortunate deaths.

“[Harrington’s mother] and I’m equally convinced that Jordan Willis played a role in this,” David Harrington’s father, Jon, said last week.

“There were four of you in that house and now three of them are dead and you are not. That doesn’t add up,” continued the grieving father.

“I think he, the three of them learned something or saw something they shouldn’t have seen, and he decided, ‘Okay, I’ve got to get rid of you now.’ Friends or not,” he added.

Other relatives have implied that the incident could be linked to Willis’ work as an HIV scientist with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative’s Center for Neutralizing Antibodies, the Schief Lab.

“The mad scientist agenda is completely ridiculous,” a source close to the Willis family told Fox Nation last week.

Willis was “very distressed” by the loss of his friends and the subsequent scrutiny, sources previously said.

“Not only is the entire country accusing him of killing his friends without any factual details, evidence or any charges at this time, but he has also lost three close friends,” lamented the source.

Willis’ father, Rodney, also publicly defended his son, insisting that he would “never in a million years do anything” to harm his friends.

After the bodies of his friends were found, Willis immediately left his house and hid in a nearby rental.

The Kansas City native is not keeping a high profile for fear of “retaliation,” his attorney explained.
