Kanu Priya was an Indian media personality who was known for hosting the popular spiritual shows ‘Awakening of Mind with Brahma Kumaris’ and ‘Karmabhoomi.’ She died on 30 April 2021, after battling the COVID-19.

Kanu Priya was born in 1969 (age 52 years; at the time of death) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. While growing up in Noida, the young Kanu Priya, soon, inclined towards spirituality. She would often discuss various facets of spirituality with her family members and friends, and later, she went on to become one of the popular faces on television, where she hosted many spirituality-based shows. She attended Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, where she earned a Master of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Kanu Priya had explored almost all aspects of media, including radio, theater, acting, hosting, scriptwriting, filmmaking, and theatre presentation.
Acting
She started her journey as an actor and acted in more than 80 serials and 50 telefilms, including Bhanwar (1998-99), Kahi Aek Gaon, Meri Kahani, Kartavya, Tesu Ke Phool, Tumhara Intezar Hai (2002), Anaro, Ranjishen, Ab Aur Nahi, and Sur Sargam. Besides acting in TV series and telefilms, she also did many theatrical productions.
Anchor/TV Host
In the 1990s, she started working as an anchor on Doordarshan.
Later, she hosted many spiritual shows on the Aastha channel for seven-eight years. In an interview, Kanu Priya revealed that she never wanted to become a TV anchor, she said,
I was very good in talking (laughs), so I became an anchor. I always enjoyed getting information and was able to connect it together and pass on to people. I never wanted to be an anchor; it just happened and even as an anchor I was involved in so many others things. In the early 90s, anchoring was more formal and now it is more informal, because that is the trend. It is just a conversational flow of thoughts.”
Kanu Priya became popular after hosting the TV shows ‘Awakening of Mind with Brahma Kumaris,’ a show that had a deep impact on the viewers, and ‘Karmabhoomi,’ a show that focussed on young leadership. In an interview, while talking about Karmabhoomi, she said,
“Karmbhoomi” is a youth oriented innovative and socially responsible concept with a vision for 2020. Basically it is to create leaders, who can inspire the youth to follow a path of self-improvement and decision making by the year 2020. The series has six main protagonists who believe in changing the world. Each of them will deal different issues like feminism, body image issues, creating awareness regarding mental health among youngsters, tackling the various problems of old-age, creating recycled products, adverse effects of societal pressure and creating awareness for environmental issues. We will be going to every university, every college with our Karmbhoomi leaders. It is all about how, what and why. What we are going to do is create leaders so that they can inspire others.”

Gul Guncha Arts
In June 2005, Kanu Priya founded a production house, Gul Guncha Arts, in Noida. In its initial years, the production house focused on creating documentaries and short films. In 2011, it started creating talk shows and semi-fiction series including ITZz MY LIFE (on NDTV Imagine), Simply Pure Bites (on Saadhna ), Call Mitra (on News24), and New Age Parenting (on Headlines Today). Since 2015, the production house has created many fiction series including Karmbhoomi (on Bindass Channel), The Desi K’s (with over 20 million views on YouTube), and Ardhsatya – Jeevan Ke Rahasya (for Dish TV’s OTT Platform ‘Watcho’).
Actor Unveiled
In 2014, she established Actor Unveiled, an acting academy in Noida. She started this academy to provide a viable platform to budding actors. The actors of the academy have performed at prestigious locations including Russian Culture Center for Science & Culture, Alliance Frances, Canvas Laugh Club (Noida & Gurgoan), and Max Towers.
Death
On 30 April 2021, Kanu Priya died after contracting the COVID-19. Sister BK Shivani of Brahma Kumaris took to Instagram to share the news of Kanu Priya’s demise. She shared a picture of Kanu Priya and wrote,
Om Shanti Angels … Last night a very beautiful angel, a chosen instrument of God … Sis. Kanupriya left her mortal coil and moved forward to another magical destiny of radiating happiness and health to millions of souls. Kanupriya is a pure soul, caring, compassionate, selfless … always a giver. She lived for a higher purpose … to create a beautiful world … and we know that even though the costume will change … she will always be God’s angel, whose every life will be surrendered to His will and His task of creating The New Age. Let us all meditate and radiate gratitude and blessings to her … Thank You Beautiful Soul for being who you are and will always be.”
