Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, is facing yet another lawsuit!
This time, he was sued by a former teacher at Donda Academy. Court documents obtained exclusively by The Blast show that fashion designer Yeezy is being sued by substitute teachers who claim that the private Christian school followed “unlawful educational practices,” as well as numerous health and safety violations.

The “Donda” rapper is being sued by two individuals: Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers. In court documents obtained by The Blast, Hailey claims that she started working for the school as a substitute teacher on November 12, 2022. She then became a third grade teacher for the school on or around January 9, 2023.
A few weeks later, on or around January 25, 2023, Byers began working as a fifth grade teacher. Although the school accepts students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, Hailey and Byers stated in court documents that they were the only African American female teachers at the school.

Hailey, who has more than twenty-five years of experience in education and previously served as dean of two colleges, claims that she found numerous health and safety violations at Donda Academy. Hailey also stated that there were several “illegal educational practices” going on at the school.
Hailey brought this violation to the school’s director and principal, Moira Love, on at least three separate occasions. In the legal filing, Hailey claims that Donda Academy is not in compliance with state regulations when it comes to “students who require educational services, supplemental testing or individualized learning plans.”

Hailey also noted that teachers are not trained or required to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) or undergo mandatory reporter training, which is required by the state government. Hailey also stated that there was no set disciplinary system for students, and therefore, she realized that many students became the subjects of severe bullying.
Court documents describe one specific incident in which an unnamed student slapped an eighth-grader and then tried to attack another teacher. The unnamed student reportedly had multiple reports of physical and verbal bullying that went unaddressed. Byers thinks that students who show violent tendencies should be expelled from school.
The two teachers also felt that Donda Academy lacked the basic requirements to operate as a “proper school.” For example, they claim that the school does not have sanitary services, nursing staff, or staff trained to provide proper medical care if the need requires it.

They also claim that Kanye West himself does not believe in having a cleaning staff for the school because he does not want to use cleaning products that contain chemicals. Instead, the two teachers claimed in the lawsuit that they were only allowed to clean with acid water and microfiber cloths.
The lawsuit goes on to state that “There are no trash cans outside of classrooms or kitchens.” While many may question where students would throw their food after lunch, the two teachers claimed that students are not allowed to bring outside food or water into the school grounds.
In fact, the two teachers claimed that the only lunch provided for the students to eat was sushi every day of the week. In court documents, they claim that it was “widely known” that Kanye West would shell out $10,000 a week to feed students sushi every day for lunch.

The teachers also revealed that there are “strict rules and conditions” that the school has to follow. For example, Kanye West reportedly does not allow crossword puzzles or coloring sheets for students to use. They also claimed that the rapper did not allow classes to be held on the second floor because he was reportedly afraid of stairs.

The teachers were terminated in March 2023. They believe it was in retaliation for reporting alleged illegal and unsafe educational practices at the school. The two former Donda Academy teachers are now suing for unpaid wages and emotional distress.
