He was born on September 21, 1980 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His Zodiac Sign is Virgo. Her paternal grandfather Raj Kapoor gave her the name Siddhima, which was later changed to Kareena. At a very young age, he took interest in acting. His father opposed his decision to become an actor while his mother fully supported him, which later caused conflict between his parents and eventually, they separated. His mother then raised him and his older sister Karisma Kapoor. In 2007, her parents started living together with her daughter. Because of hard work, he achieved a lot of success in his acting career in a short period of time.

On 16 October 2012, she married actor Saif Ali Khan after several years of dating. The couple has a son Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi who was born on 20 December 2016.

In an interview, Kareena shared the story behind naming their son Taimur. He explained that the name ‘Taimur’ was inspired by Saif Ali Khan’s close childhood friend who lived in Mumbai. Kareena further revealed that Saif really liked this name which is why they decided to name their first child Taimur. Kareena, in the interview, said,
When we got the name… Saif actually said… He grew up with a neighbor friend, and he’s always really liked his name and his name is Taimur, so he said, ‘You know, if I have a son, he’s my son. first friend I want to name him Taimur’, and that’s Taimur’s name, because he was Saif’s first friend when he lived here in the city.”

She attended Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai and Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun. He then enrolled in Mithibai College, Mumbai to further his education. After school, he took a three-month summer course in microcomputers from the Harvard Summer School in the US. He then returned to India and joined the Government Law College in Mumbai to study law, but, he dropped out of college after a year to pursue his career in acting. He was then enrolled at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) to get training in acting. He got trained under the guidance of Kishore Namit Kapoor.

She made her acting debut in 2000 with the film Refugee, in which she played the lead role of Nazneen/Naaz M. Ahmed. For the film, she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Before making her debut with the film Refugee (2000), she started shooting for the film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000), but due to some misunderstandings, she left the film.
