Beckinsale recently shared a scary experience with a catfisherman who tricked several men into thinking they were in a relationship with him during the lockdown. The scammer invited the victim to his home in Los Angeles, leaving Kate and her then-boyfriend, Goody Grace, to live in constant fear.
Responding to his 5.5 million Instagram followers, the 49-year-old revealed that the situation was so bad that several men flew from different states to Los Angeles and showed up on his “doorstep late at night” for weeks. However, some of the men were shamed after learning the truth, while others were arrested.
The Hollywood star shared that the harrowing experience left him and Grace “totally freaked out”, and he ended up having to move house. According to him, the fraudster also created a fake social media profile for his pet cat Clive, who has become a social media sensation.
‘It’s not me’
Repeating she would never contact a man personally on social media, Beckinsale shared a video skit by comedian Jimmy Wyngarde, which hilariously depicted a man convinced he was in a cyber relationship with Beckinsale.
Warning his followers about the dangers of online catfishing, the “Enigma” actor emphasized that if anyone receives a message purporting to be from him, it is a scam and urged them to report and block scammers.
“It is NOT me, and you are being taken advantage of. Please report and block anyone who does this to you. In short, if you think I’m texting you, it’s not me,” he stressed.
Beckinsale also added that her assistant is not authorized to send messages to anyone on her behalf, urging her followers to be careful when interacting online and not fall victim to such scams.

One follower even reported receiving messages from a fake profile impersonating Kate’s Persian cat, writing, “Unfortunately, I received messages from people on here pretending to be you and choosing someone else (now [even] fake Clive profile appeared?) and on Facebook, [some] even using your profile photo to try and lure me in, but I’m smart and think, no way in hell.”
Another fan jokingly lamented the situation, quipping, “Oh, I’ve been waiting at Wolverhampton station for you for three hours, now where are you, Kate? PS, just a five minute argument will do me for now. The comment prompted the actress to respond, “Hahaha,” with a heart emoji.
