The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has stepped back amid speculation about her adorable Mother’s Day photo, which featured her and her children.
On Sunday, Kate’s photo came under scrutiny from fans and leading photo agencies following claims that it had been “doctored” and “manipulated.” Now, the mother of three has admitted to actually “editing” the image in a statement shared on Monday.

On Mother’s Day, Kensington Palace released the first official photo of the Princess of Wales in an attempt to shut down rumors and wild conspiracy theories surrounding her health status and whereabouts.
Unfortunately, their efforts only led to more scrutiny, with some eagle-eyed fans noting that the images looked “doctored” and “photoshopped.” This worsened when leading photo agencies, such as AP and Reuters, issued “Kill” alerts on Mother’s Day images, with demands to remove them from their websites and all social media platforms.
In a personal statement from the princess on Monday, she took responsibility for the “Photoshop” failure in the picture, stating that she did edit it.
“Like most amateur photographers, I sometimes experiment with editing. I would like to apologize for any confusion caused by the family photo we shared yesterday. I hope everyone celebrating has a very happy Mother’s Day. C,” the statement read, according to Daily Mail.
Princess Mother’s Day Image Slammed Online
On social media, the image, which was initially praised for seeming to revive royal fans’ fears about Kate’s health, began to receive criticism for being “photoshopped”.
One person wrote on Wales’ official Instagram page: “Shout out to whoever is doing the PR … Because nothing says “let’s stop the conspiracy theories” quite like a really bad photoshop/ai generated photo.”
Another said, “Ummmmm, this photo looks neat… Catherine’s right hand around Louis is completely blurred, but Charlotte’s left hand, at the same distance from the camera, is not, and so is Louis’s jumper around the hand. Also, Charlotte’s dress, which drapes her body behind her arms, blocks the sleeves at the wrists… the cardigan sleeves show the dress in front of her when it’s only in the back.”
Other royal fans didn’t seem to mind, as they praised the family for the cute photo and Prince William for taking their picture.
One fan wrote, “Three cheers for Prince William. Anytime a dad snaps a beautiful photo of a mom with her kids who are all naturally smiling. Well done, and may he make a full recovery.”
