Kate Middleton branded ‘out of touch’ for wearing $400 shirt and asking Brits for fundraiser donations

Kate Middleton was branded out-of-touch for wearing an expensive silk dress while pleading with Britons to donate to children in need.

Middleton, 41, opened the BBC’s annual Children in Need fundraiser wearing a Lisou Betty Rainbow Print Silk Shirt in a pre-recorded clip.

The blouse, which is no longer available for purchase, was reportedly priced at £315, or about $400, according to a fan.

Similar styles range from $225 to $400.

The future Queen of England – who married into a family estimated to be worth about $30 billion – was asked to open the fundraiser.

“Tonight is about helping to support, champion, and empower all children to be the best they can be, which is essential to their future health and happiness,” the Princess of Wales said in the clip. “It’s important that we nurture early childhood and that’s why the kind of projects supported by Kids in Need are so important.”

The BBC’s Children in Need is an annual fundraiser that sees a host of celebrities take part to raise money for disadvantaged children across the United Kingdom.

Despite the noble effort, critics were quick to attack the mother of three.

“A millionaire opened the Children In Need show on the BBC. Asking for contributions to the community. Tone deaf, @bbc…” a user X wrote in a damning tweet.

Another showed the number of homes she and her husband Prince William own, write on X: “@BBC So Kate Middleton who owns a few houses just appeared on #ChildrenInNeed, last year it raised about £20m. Or £354m less than we give the royal family to cook Buckingham Palace. Hypocrisy is [sickening].”

Writer Dan White writes: “I know families of children with disabilities who have gone without food so that their children can eat. So I was offended when Kate Middleton appeared on @BBCCiN wearing a £315 blouse.”

“I hope Kate Middleton will announce a 10% cut in Royal funding from public taxation. Think how much that would raise for charity!” another user X wrote.

However, it’s not all bad as some fans pointed out that the princess once wore the shirt in 2020.

Middleton has not publicly addressed the backlash. Although, he posted a video of his speech to the couple’s official Instagram.
