According to an announcement by Kensington Palace on Wednesday, the Princess of Wales underwent “planned abdominal surgery” at a London clinic on Tuesday.

The operation has now left Kate hospitalized as she recovers. The princess will also not be able to carry out her royal duties until after Easter.

A statement from the palace read, “The surgery was successful, and it is expected that he will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue his recovery. Based on current medical advice, he is unlikely to return to public duty until after Easter.”

It continued, “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate.
