In a recent TikTok video, comedian Kathy Griffin opened up about her health, revealing that she has been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which she has never discussed publicly.
The 62-year-old shared that his case has been described as “extreme” by medical professionals, saying, “This is going to sound like, whatever, you can laugh or whatever, but I’ve been diagnosed with complex PTSD.”
“They call it an extreme case,” he added. According to the UK’s National Health Service, PTSD can cause symptoms such as involuntary and vivid reliving of traumatic events, difficulty managing emotions and challenges in relationships. In the caption of the video, Griffin wrote that despite having the tools to cope, her experience with complex PTSD was incredibly intense and unlike anything she had ever faced.
In the clip, the actor and comedian reached out to his followers for coping tips, especially those who also struggle with depression and anxiety, before mentioning that his journey with complex PTSD began about five and a half years ago.
“If any of you know my story, you will understand that this started for me about five and a half years ago. Blink. You know, cancer doesn’t help,” he said.

On April 14, Griffin, who recently spent the Easter holidays getting an MRI, shared another candid video with his followers. He revealed he had suffered a challenging eight-hour “attack” the day before, describing it as “wriggling in pain in bed.”
In the video, the Emmy-winning comedian said that he felt another episode coming on that day and decided to go for a walk to cope, stating: “So, I’m walking right now, and I’m outside. and see the ocean, which helps. And I’m almost like mid anxiety attack right now. It feels good to walk through it. I keep telling myself it won’t last forever.”
Reassuring his followers he’s fine, Griffin revealed he’ll be recording a voiceover for the animated TV show, “Futurama.”
Kathy Griffin To Get Professional Help

News, she plans to try eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. As described by the Cleveland Clinic, this method involves certain eye movements while processing traumatic memories to heal from past distressing experiences.
Remaining optimistic, Griffin hopes that EMDR therapy will effectively resolve his situation. In the meantime, however, the comedian shared that his four dogs, whom he calls his “healers,” have played an important role in his healing process.
Kathy Griffin Diagnosed With Lung Cancer

In August 2021, Griffin revealed to his followers on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer, despite never smoking. The actor shared the details of the cancer in his post, writing, “I have to tell you guys something. I have cancer, and I’m going to have surgery to remove half of my left lung.” He continued, “Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”
Griffin told his followers that his doctors were “very optimistic” that it was stage 1 cancer and contained in his left lung. “Hopefully, there will be no chemotherapy or radiation after this, and I should have a normal function with my breathing,” he said, each E! News.
