Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have been accused of trying to steal a home from an elderly man while he was in intensive care.

The engaged couple is headed to trial with a man, 83, a veteran who claims he sold the couple his $15 million Santa Barbara home while “out of his mind.” The legal battle has dragged on for three long years.
It stems from a sale that took place in July 2020. Carl Westcott was released from the hospital after six hours of spinal surgery and a few days later he signed the papers to sell his home for $15 million – pretty cool if you ask us!
Unfortunately, once the painkillers wore off, he felt cheated out of what could have been a bigger amount. He realized that the sale was not what he wanted and tried to cancel the contract.

The celebrity couple’s agent is threatening to take legal action against the Huntington’s Disease veteran. They demanded that he proceed with the sale of the property. In a court filing, Westcott’s summary of action calls for the plea to be dismissed because “he lacked the mental capacity to understand the nature and possible consequences.”
He claimed that he never listed the property, and did not speak to the broker about his house being sold. The house has eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. He reiterated that he was in no position to make a deal about anything at the time.
“After leaving the hospital, Mr. Westcott was prescribed at least two opiates in pill form that he had to continue to take for pain, which he took as prescribed several times each day.”

The veteran through his lawyer believes he was put in a strange position given the situation he was in. “The combination of his age, weakness from his back condition and recent surgery, and the opiates he takes several times a day make Mr. Westcott unwell.”
Westcott had only bought the house just two months before it was poached by the singer and his actress fiancee. He bought the place in May 2020 “to occupy as his primary residence for the rest of his life.” It went on sale in July 2020.

Westcott emailed Berkshire Hathaway, the real estate agency, on July 22 and stated “in his capacity as a dual agent of the seller and buyer, that he does not want to sell his home.” Westcott received a letter back from Bloom and Perry’s lawyers stating:
His client was “unwilling to abandon” this purchase and informed him that he was “obliged to complete the sale.” Court proceedings will begin this month, but Westcott will have to stay at home. Huntington’s disease has left him mentally disabled and bedridden.
It’s unclear why the super-rich couple couldn’t find another home in the same area, but it’s not a good look for the Hollywood duo.
