“There was a moment in my life where I was like you know, can I be myself? A moment where you’re overthinking sh*t. That’s not me, why am I overthinking this? I think you just get to a point where I want my life to be my own.

Palmer mentioned that while his parents never expressed any disapproval of being gay in their household when he was growing up, there was an unspoken aspect around the topic. In his words:

“There’s such an unspeakable thing that can make you feel –, and because I like guys too, I’m kind of like, ‘Well, we don’t have to talk about it.’ Because I like guys too, it’s like another extra thing that no one needs to know. I don’t have to live outside.”

When she turned 17, the mother of one felt the urge to test things out and “explore her life.” After years of suppressing her feelings, she decided to fully embrace her life.

The five-time NAACP Image Award winner shared that her desire for love and being open about it played a key role in her journey. She emphasizes that she doesn’t want anything to stand in her way and accepting who she really is is an important part of her process of allowing love into her life.

Palmer stated that her parents never discussed sexuality or related matters because it was not a topic of concern to them. She continued, “And I know that by the time they see how free spirited I am, and whoever I want to meet, they’re like, ‘Who cares.’ It was never in their minds.”
