As for “American Idol,” with its first season, it soon became one of the most famous TV shows in the history of the United States and spawned a collection of talent competition programs. It is based on the British show “Pop Idol”, developed by English-born entertainment executive Simon Fuller and introduced in the UK in 2001.

Although the “American Idol” concept was “shopped around” in the United States and rejected several times by TV networks, Fox eventually picked it up, premiering it on June 11, 2002. Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman hosted the premiere. Also, it features three judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson, who are responsible for selecting and judging the contestants.
