“@taylorswift13 just a thought, you should go in & re-record all the songs you don’t own the songs exactly how you do it but put new art & some sort of incentive so fans won’t buy the old versions anymore,” Clarkson tweeted at the time. “I’ll buy all the new versions just to prove something.”
Fast forward to October, Swift released “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” a re-recording of her 2014 album.
Additionally, Swift has treated fans to re-recorded versions of “Fearless,” “Red” and “Speak Now.”

In response to a question from an E! reporter, Clarkson addressed her tweet in 2019, in which she suggested that Swift re-record her songs following Scooter Braun’s acquisition of the “Anti-Hero” singer’s music catalog in a $300 million sale.
Although Clarkson was happy to express her support, she believes that Swift will eventually deal with the situation independently.
“I love how nice he is,” she said. “He is a very smart businessman. So, he will think about that. But it just sucks when you see an artist you admire and respect really want something and it’s special to them. You know if they’re going to find a weakness, you’re going to find a weakness. And he did and was really, like, the best-selling artist I feel like of all time right now.”

Swift’s re-recording reached No. 1 13 on the Billboard charts and surpassed sales of 1.6 million units in the US (with over 3.5 million units worldwide) in its first week alone. This achievement broke his own record, previously set by the 2014 album, which sold 1.287 million units.
The latest album achieved incredible sales, with 693,000 copies sold on vinyl. This marked the highest sales week for the format since at least 1991. Notably, it also surpassed Swift’s previous vinyl record of 575,000 for “Midnights,” just a year ago.
“1989 (Taylor’s Version)” achieved impressive sales of 554,000 copies on CD, marking the highest weekly total for the format since Adele’s “25”.
Billboard reports that the new “1989” is offered in 15 versions in physical format, including five colored vinyl variants, eight CDs and two cassettes. Additionally, the album garnered 375 million streams, setting a new record for the most streams in a single week among all four of Swift’s remix albums.
