Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are officially empty nesters.
The couple’s three children have moved away, leaving them to adjust to their new lives. Their youngest son, Joaquin, 19, moved last year and is studying at the University of Michigan. Daughter Lola, 21, is studying abroad in London, and their eldest son, Michael, 25, lives on his own and works as an actor and producer.

Kelly And Mark Are Adjusting To Empty Nest Life
A few weeks ago, Ripa, 51, had all the kids under one roof and posted about the happy moment on Instagram with the caption of a photo of the three children, “It was nice to have the chickens back in the nest for a few weeks. Back to life …..back to reality ♥️♥️♥️🥺#summer #vibes” to which Consuelos commented, “Love those chickens.”
Having an empty house is something the couple has to adjust to. Even small things like making dinner have a learning curve. “It was terrifying, thrilling, liberating, surprising…and quiet,” Ripa tells PEOPLE. “I don’t know how to make dinner proportionally. Now, it’s 10pm and we’re going to eat.”
Approaching the empty nest days did break Ripa’s heart, but they made the best of their new lives. “There were moments when I was like, ‘We’re going to be that couple: our third child goes to college and we get divorced because this is the time,'” she joked. “But there was another moment, where we went to the beach alone for the first time since our honeymoon with cheese and baguettes. These other parents were running around us with little kids.” Ripa said she never got to see the sunset in the past, but that has now changed. “I realized I never saw the sunset because I made sure our kids didn’t run into the water when I wasn’t looking,” she explained.

Enjoying Their Alone Time After All The Kids Move Out
The couple realizes that being an empty nester means they can enjoy as much alone time as they want. “So I think for us, it’s ‘Oh the next phase of our lives, this is pretty cool,'” Ripa explained. Ripa and Consuelos married in 1995 when Ripa was just 25 and welcomed their first child in 1997. “On paper it shouldn’t work and when it didn’t, we really tried,” he said. “We fought for our marriage when it would have been easier to give up and throw in the towel.”
Both Ripa and Consuelos’ parents have been married for a long time, so they only know how to manage their marriage. “Listen, my parents have been married for 61 years and Mark’s parents have been married for 55 years,” he said. “We don’t know any other way.”
