Ballerini reveals it all People’s Magazine Beautiful Issue 2023, discusses the ups and downs of her life from the previous year and how it affected her.

One notable, albeit tumultuous, incident was her divorce proceedings from fellow singer Morgan Evans, which inspired her February EP “Rolling Up the Welcome Mat.”

“I feel like I’ve been playing catch-up since Rolling Up the Welcome Mat came out because I put out a proper record called Subject to Change in September, and that was an album I spent two years on, and then obviously, I had a lot of life going on,” said the singer “I write about it because that’s what I’ve always done since I was a kid.”

As for why he released two projects in such a short amount of time, Ballerini said he did it for himself “selfishly” and that it marked the “first time” he returned to “an unfiltered way of making music.”

Despite the success of her new EP, Ballerini claims that releasing music doesn’t lead to “moving,” which makes her feel like she’s “playing to emotions in the best possible way.”

But instead, his songs, like “Penthouse,” have resonated deeply with audiences, especially during his plans for his current tour.

“When I sang ‘Penthouse,’ it was a heartbreaking moment with every woman in the room relating to heartbreak,” Ballerini said.

She noted that the new EP is a way for her fans going through Heartbreak to connect and heal from the “scary and isolating” feelings that come with such emotional upheaval.

The singer said, “Heartbreak can feel very scary and isolating when you’re in it, and for me, music is a way to connect. It is a healing thing.”

Ballerini has been on the road since September 2022 for her “Heartfirst” tour, delighting fans with her music across the cities where her concerts are held.

The tour has brought a lot of positives for the singer as she feels she is getting the rewarding experience of appearing for others.

“When I’m on the road, I feel an incredible sense of calm when I walk off the stage because I’m like, ‘Okay, you show up for the people who show up for you, and you do your job,'” Ballerini said.

And regarding her relationship status, the singer noted that she has learned to be “really good at being alone again.”

“I think being alone requires you to be comfortable with whatever comes in solitude,” she added. “If you’re okay with whatever comes up, then you’re okay. If you’re not comfortable being alone, you might be running away from something.”

Since splitting from Evans, the singer has been romantically linked to “Outer Banks” actor Chase Stokes.

Ballerini noted that her notion of what it takes to be beautiful has changed over the past year.

“I think beautiful to me is happy now, and that is very subject to change,” said the singer. “I used to think it was very aesthetic, and I think it’s more internal now.”

But despite his self-image, he never hesitated to choose a career in music as the right path.

He added, “When I discovered music, I knew it felt different. My mother has seen it go from hobby to passion to knowledge….that knowledge has been the driving force through every season of uncertainty.”

Looking back on how far she’s come, Ballerini says she would advise her younger self not to be fixated on always being in control because it’s impossible to stop people from hurting you.
