Kevin Smith Suffered a Massive Heart Attack Almost Five Years Ago

“Almost five years ago, weighing almost 300 lbs, I had a massive heart attack,” Smith, 52, began her caption. “On Thursday, I ran up a hill in my hometown that I never ran as a kid, weighing in at my lowest adult weight of 195.”

The caption then explained that he would never stop talking about the heart attack because it was a reminder of what he had survived. “I know some people are like ‘Are you going to stop talking about heart attacks already?’ If I do, I risk complacency again – or worse. So with apologies to those who listen to me as a broken record, I will continue to remind myself that I am lucky enough to have survived the most devastating heart attack and that I am living on borrowed time.

Smith ended her caption with a little reminder to all, “So maybe use this post as a polite reminder, Kids:Pretty Please, with sugar on it…Check your heart.”

Another follower wrote about a story similar to Smith’s saying, “Three years ago I survived a heart attack. I got drunk every day, smoked cigarettes and ate a horrible diet. Just through diet and exercise I have lost 112 pounds, haven’t had a drink in 698 days and am smoke free. I’m training to do the LA marathon right now because the last time I ran through LA I had a car stereo under my arm and the police chased me. Thanks for the inspiration bruh. 💚”

Other followers also left their inspirational changes and thanked Smith for being open and discussing everything he went through. “DO NOT stop talking about it! On the 28th of every month, I post that I’ve gone another 30 days without alcohol. On October 28, it will be 14 months. It is important to remind ourselves of where we have gone so that we do not return to bad habits. Proud of you, friend! 👍🏻,” wrote one commenter.

And another added, “Dude, I’m glad you talked about the heart attack because it means you’re still here to talk about it. And the world would be a much sadder place without Kevin Smith in it. And it also influenced your latest work in a really great way and I’m sure that’s one of the many reasons why Clerk III was so emotional because we were reminded that we almost lost you. Keep it up buddy!”

Big thanks to the crowd for giving Grace a standing ovation and making her feel like a million bucks!”
