Kevin Spacey Has To Wait Another 48 Hours For UK Sexual Assault Trial

Kevin Spacey may have secured a victory in the US but his legal battle in the UK continues as he faces allegations of sexual assault.

In a case that has received significant media attention, the controversial actor faces yet another delay in his trial. The adjournment adds another chapter to the ongoing legal saga around him, leaving people curious about the outcome of this much-anticipated courtroom drama.

Kevin Spacey’s UK Sexual Assault Trial Delayed Again

On Wednesday, the Academy Award winner went to Southwark Crown Court in London, only to be told that the start of his trial would be adjourned until Friday. Despite the setback, the 63-year-old actor remained calm and arrived at court wearing a navy blue suit, light blue shirt and pink tie.

Stepping out of a black cab, the “Working Girl” actress greeted waiting photographers and cameras with a wave before entering the courthouse, accompanied by a small group of individuals.

In case you missed it, Spacey is currently facing 12 counts of sexual assault related to incidents involving four men from 2001 to 2013. As reported by PEOPLEduring a recent court appearance, Judge Mark Wall was informed that the “Heartburn” star’s defense attorney, Patrick Gibbs, was involved in another case scheduled for Thursday.

As a result, the start of the trial was rescheduled for Friday, with the presentation of evidence set to begin on Monday. The trial, which is now projected to exceed four weeks, will involve an alternate jury to cover the expected length of time.

In a pre-trial hearing earlier this month, which was conducted virtually, the estimated four-week duration of the trial was confirmed by the judge. It was also reported that Spacey will remain on unconditional bail.

Previously, The Blast reported that the “House of Cards” star’s trial began on June 28 as announced by Southwark Crown Court. The film producer was not physically present during the court proceedings, appearing via video link.

The actor, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, confirmed his legal name and spoke minimally throughout the video’s appearance. Allegations from the UK first emerged in May last year, initially involving four counts of sexual assault and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

In July, Spacey pleaded not guilty to the charges, and by November, the British Crown Prosecution Service added seven more charges against him. In January 2023, the singer again pleaded not guilty, this time to one count of allegedly causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent, three counts of indecent assault and three counts of sexual assault.

In addition to these allegations, American actor Anthony Rapp has accused the “Se7en” star of sexual acts, harassment and assault, claiming that Spacey acted inappropriately towards him when he was 14 years old.

Following the dismissal of sexual harassment charges brought against him by Rapp, The Blast reports that Spacey has landed his first film role. The actor, whose career was nearly destroyed by the allegations, will lend his voice to an upcoming British indie thriller.

As you may recall, Spacey has faced accusations of intimate misconduct against the “Star Trek: Discovery” star. However, the jury found him not guilty, and Judge Lewis Kaplan dismissed the case.

Rapp had asked for $40 million in damages, but the court ruled that the allegations were groundless, as they failed to prove that the “West End” actress had engaged in inappropriate touching.

According to reports, Spacey has been cast as the antagonist in Cupsogue Pictures’ upcoming film “Control”. His role is described as similar to Kiefer Sutherland’s character in the 2002 film “Phone Booth.”

The film’s director and writer, Gene Fallaize, expressed his admiration for the host of the 71st Tony Awards, noting that he wrote the script with him in mind for being a fan from a young age. Despite the legal troubles surrounding Spacey, Fallaize sees them as considerations rather than concerns.

He emphasized, “He is one of the greatest actors of our generation. His personal life aside — it’s something I can’t comment on and don’t know — it’s an opportunity to work with one of the great actors.”
