Kim Cattrall has reopened old wounds.
The “Sex and the City” alum has been candid about her pain following the shocking death of her younger brother Chris Cattrall in February 2018. The 55-year-old was found dead five days after he was reported missing, with her sister confirming in a social media tribute that she had died of suicide.
Kim Cattrall Still Forgets Where She Was When She Learned About Chris’s Death
Chris is once again in the public eye after Kim opened up about the profound effect his tragic passing had on her. In a moving interview published on Sunday, June 4, the 66-year-old actor began:
“You remember where you were, what happened, what was said. It’s all very accessible, all the time, a burden that’s always with you and never goes away.”

Referring to the five-day search that led to the discovery of his lifeless body, he shared, “It was just a special few days. Everything in you is on alert because he can be saved.”
He then explained that he always believed it was up to him to be the protector and guardian in his family. In the words of the Screen Actors Guild Awards winner to The Times:
“I am the one who goes to the world. So it was my role. But I slowly retired from that. I’ve done a lot of work where I don’t want to assume that I can fix people. They have to want to improve themselves, and I care, live, and worry about them not getting it done. They must want to change.”
Kim went on to point out that Chris fought many demons while struggling with substance abuse problems, including alcohol. Using a lesson she learned from one of her friends who dealt with the same issue, the “Mannequin” star stated:
“A friend of mine, who is a big supporter of AA, who my brother never visited, said, ‘Alcohol is a mistress that makes you lonely and then kills you,'” she shared. “It was surprising to hear it with such clear clarity. And that’s what happened.”
In the end, the 66-year-old was glad that his father, Dennis Cattrall, did not live to see Chris go, as he felt he would not have been able to handle him despite his “tough” attitude.

Last December, Kim honored another beloved family member who had passed away, her mother, Shane. The Blast noted that the Glamor Award winner has taken to Instagram to upload several photos showing her and her late parents at different important moments, including the former’s graduation.
While the first two slides show the mother-daughter pair beaming at the camera, the third features a collage of them sharing heartfelt hugs, boisterous laughter and conversation. The fourth slide comes with a vintage photo of the couple in their younger years posing in front of a tree.
The fifth photo highlights the blurred vision of the Golden Globe-winning actor sulking as if to kiss his mother, who is wearing dark sunglasses. The final slide appears to be the most poignant scene, showing a white gardenia planted next to a cardboard sign with her mother’s name and a timeline, 1929 – 2022. The date reappears in the post’s caption as Kim writes:
“Shane Cattrall 1929 – 2022. Rest in peace Mum ❤️.”
Along with getting over 260k likes from well-wishers, the post also sparked reactions from the blonde beauty’s friends, fans and colleagues in the comments. Leading the pack was comedian Alan Carr, who wrote, “Sorry dear. Sending you lots of love ❤️,” and “Queer as Folk” reboot front runner Stephen Dunn, who typed, “sending all my love ❤️ ✨✨.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Kim, so much love to you ❤️,” added the late comedian and drag queen Paul O’Grady. For his fans, one said, “I am so sorry for your loss. I love your mom and her siblings in Who Do You Think You Are. I hope his passing is peaceful. My thoughts are with you all.”
A second fan said, “I’m so sorry for losing you, Kim! You are on my mind! Can he rest in peace? All my love to you at this time.”
