Kim Kardashian Talks Delay With Balenciaga Controversy: ‘It’s Not My Place To Jump In’

Kim Kardashian has addressed the backlash she received for being slow to respond to the Balenciaga scandal.

The reality star came under fire after she took time out to address a “disturbing” ad campaign by a fashion brand that featured a toddler holding a teddy bear dressed in a slavery costume.

When he finally tweeted a statement rebuking the controversial image, critics labeled it “non-committal” and insincere. Despite this, Kardashian spoke again about the controversy and why she hesitated to address it in the first place.

Kim Kardashian Doesn’t Feel Like This Is The Place To Cancel Balenciaga

Kardashian, whose initial response came more than a week after the Balenciaga campaign went live, has stated in part, “I’m reevaluating my relationship with the brand, based on their willingness to accept accountability for something that should never have happened. Coincidentally starting with — & the actions I expect them to take to protect children.”

The response was not well received by critics who thought he should have ended his partnership with the brand immediately. Commenting on the never-ending drama when she appeared on the Monday, Dec. 26 episode of the “Angie Martinez IRL Podcast,” the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star said:

“I was like, wait; I am not participating in this campaign. I don’t know what happened. Let me take some time to research this, and once I see what everyone is seeing on the internet and the reality of the situation, I really speak up and give my thoughts on child pornography and condemn it completely.”

Despite telling her millions of Instagram followers that she was “disgusted” by the ad, Kardashian noted that “no matter what” she says, there will always be “people who have a problem” with her and the way she handles situations. In the words of a mother of four:

“Because I didn’t say, F**k you, Balenciaga, that’s it, that angry person. So, like they get mad if I don’t speak up, they get mad if I do and if I don’t cancel [Balenciaga].”

He added that while he knows and understands how “crazy cancellation culture is,” it’s “never in my place” to cancel any brand or individual. The founder of SKIMS concluded that he “definitely cannot win” in this type of situation “unless they hear what they want to hear.”

Regarding the initial response to the drama, The Blast reports that Twitter users who were less than pleased with the statement immediately responded.

“Why do you still have to talk to them? You need to break up with them immediately & use your money to research deeply what is going on. There’s more to it than just a campaign,” one critic wrote of Kardashian’s claim that she “would like an opportunity to speak with their team to understand for herself how this could happen.”

Another angrily tweeted, “You say all this but refuse to cut ties with them [clown emojis]. f**k you and pedo a** balenciagia.” A third Twitter user chimed in that the reality star’s plan to “re-evaluate” his relationship with the company instead of cutting ties means “he’s waiting until people calm down so he can go back to advertising for them.”

Media Personality Plans To Continue Shielding Kids From Kanye West’s Online Drama

During the same podcast conversation, Kardashian gave Martinez an update on her tumultuous relationship with her ex-husband, Kanye West, with whom she shares her children – North, Saint, Psalm and Chicago.

After sharing how difficult co-parenting with Ye has been because of his social media antics, the business mogul claimed, according to The Blast, “I have the best dad [Rob Kardashian Sr.], and I have the best memories and the greatest experiences, and that’s all I want for my kids as long as they can have it.” @

With that in mind, the doting mother is ready to protect them from their father’s often aggressive and racist online persona. “That’s what I want for them. If they don’t know what’s being said or what’s going on in the world, why would I bring that energy to them? That’s really a load of adult s–t that they’re not ready to deal with,” the 42-year-old said.
