While not someone whose name usually appears in multiple tabloids for drama, that all changed when Kimora and her daughter Aoki had a social media meltdown calling out Russell Simmons for his alleged abusive behavior. Now, weeks later, Kimora seems to be in a better place, glowing and radiating confidence while confirming to fans that she’s doing “okay” amid the family feud.

Over the weekend, Kimora paired a shiny gold mini dress with matching heeled sandals, plenty of bangles and minimal makeup for an appearance on day two of the Essence Culture Festival in New Orleans on Saturday, July 1.
Through a recording shared in an Instagram Story upload, a moderator can be heard asking how the former model is doing. In response, he said, “I’m fine. I’m always okay. I’m a very stylish person, I’m a single mother of five, that’s why I’m here because there are many women here. So much black girl joy, brown girl joy. all colors of joy. So I feel good to be in a room like this.”

According to her last line, the entrepreneur meant that she is happy to be in a space where she is appreciated and sought after for her fashion efforts. “It’s like coming home….Everybody used to be like ‘aunt Kimora, auntie’s here….’” Kimora stated during a backstage interview.
This will be the mogul’s first public appearance since she took to social media to address – even breaking down in tears at one point – her ex-husband’s alleged abuse. According to The Blast, the family feud started shortly after his eldest son and daughter, Ming, said “Happy Father’s Day,” instead of Russell.
The move didn’t seem to please the Def Jam founder, who responded with a jab of his own, writing via Instagram Story, “Stop telling dads they should fight harder to see their kids & start asking moms why she has to fight at all. “
Instead, his ex-wife brought her story where she asked him to “leave my children alone,” adding, “This narrative attacks the only caregiver, the only parent at home with the children, the mother and the children. for lack and shame of self is dead. Dead. Dead.”
Kimora further declares that her ex-partner’s “threats and lies and intimidation are fickle [sic] and tactics are pathetic” followed by Aoki sharing a lot of content, allegedly highlighting his father’s unacceptable behavior towards his family. While one update featured FaceTime footage showing Russell seemingly yelling at his baby girl, another was a heated conversation between the father and daughter.
Several of the record executives’ messages to Aoki insinuated that Kimora had succeeded in fulfilling her “promise” to “steal” his money and the love of their children. Upon seeing the allegations, the 20-year-old vowed that he would “never speak” to Russell until he died.

The drama appears to have spread after the Phat Farm creator took to Instagram to offer a secret apology to her daughter, claiming that God was “testing” them “a little bit”.

Two years before this public attack on Russell, he and Kimora had been embroiled in a legal battle over improper business investments. As it turns out, the Tantris founder has insisted that her ex-boyfriend and now-husband, Tim Leissner, diverted his stock, worth tens of millions of dollars, in Celsius energy drink to pay Leissner’s bond in connection with the federal criminal charges against him.
Responding to the accusations in a statement released by her legal team and obtained by The Blast, Kimora claimed that she and her children were “shocked by the blackmail harassment coming from her ex-husband, Russell Simmons, who has decided to sue her for shares and dividends of Celsius stock in where Kimora and Tim Leissner invested millions of dollars.”
After calling it an “unwanted attempt by Russell to use the legal system to access funds” he was not entitled to, the statement vowed, “Russell will be held accountable for his serial abuse and we will face up to his baseless claims that he guaranteed Celsius stock dividends despite contributions the zero is self-acknowledged.”
Kimora’s team also shared that they are “actively working to end his harassment, which continues even though Russell has fled the country – he will face his own reckoning in a US court.”
