As shared by PEOPLE, Buckingham Palace announced that the Head of the Commonwealth will play an active role in his upcoming birthday parade. The royal affair, scheduled for June 17, will take place in London.
Thanks to the King’s willingness to ride in the annual Trooping the Color parade, the event will mark the first time a British monarch has saddled up for the parade since 1986. The last person to perform the feat was the late Queen Elizabeth II, who rode her beloved race horse Burmese.
After his iconic moment, the former ruler of the empire skipped horseback to ride in a car. In 2003, the king’s late husband, Prince Philip, retired from the saddle to join his wife. Nevertheless, the mother of four reportedly remained faithful in horse riding until the age of 90.
The 96-year-old’s love of horses and riding has been passed down to several of his children and grandchildren, including King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince William. The individuals mentioned have all ridden in royal processions, showing impressive skill.
The annual Trooping the Color parade was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID outbreak. This coming Saturday, King Charles’ first event as king, the father-of-two will be honored as master of ceremonies of the Grenadier Guards, Welsh Guards, Irish Guards, Blues and Royals, Life Guards and Coldstream Guards.
For his role in the parade, the 74-year-old will ride from Buckingham Palace to The Mall to the Horse Guards Parade in St. James’ Park, traveled nearly a mile on horseback. At his stop, environmentalists will be greeted with Royal Honors before inspecting the team representing the regiment.
In addition, the recipient of the Global Environmental Citizen Award, his wife, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family will enjoy a performance from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards. The group should “show their colours” or unfurl their flags as shared by the Palace.

The soldiers were to be from the regiment in which Princess Anne served as Colonel-in-Chief, the Blues and Royals, also to accompany the former Prince of Wales along with soldiers from the Life Guards. A Soldier Fainted During Preparations for the Coming King’s Birthday Parade
With the parade coming up in a few days, rehearsals for his first birthday parade as King are underway but it’s not entirely positive. According to reports, a member of the group reportedly passed out on Saturday, June 10, while practicing for the upcoming Trooping the Color parade.
During a training session in London, the soldier fainted due to extreme heat. However, the unknown man stood his ground, coming to his senses a moment later to continue playing his trombone.
Although keen to fight to the end, the soldier was thankfully taken away for medical help. The soldiers’ commitment to training in adverse conditions touched Prince William’s heart.

The Prince of Wales gave a special shout out to all the band members and troops training for his father’s birthday parade on the official Prince and Princess of Wales Twitter account. The royal message reads,
“A big thank you to every soldier who took part in the Colonel’s Review this morning in the heat. It’s a tough situation, but you all did a great job. Thank you. W.”
