At the 2022 Emmys, Armstrong and several “Succession” cast members took the stage to accept the Emmy award for Outstanding Drama Series. During the creator’s acceptance speech, he said, “Big week for succession. New king in the UK … for us.”

He later admitted that the Academy’s voting process that earned him the award said, “Uh, it turns out more votes were involved in our win than Prince Charles.” Immediately, the hall was filled with shouts and cheers, and Armstrong quickly added, “I’m not saying we’re any more legitimate in our position than he is. We’ll leave that to someone else.”
