On Wednesday, King Charles carried out his first royal duties since his cancer diagnosis was revealed by attending a meeting with Prime Minister Sunak at Buckingham Palace to discuss matters of government.
At the meeting, Sunak told Charles that it was “wonderful to see you looking so good,” to which the king joked, “It’s all done with a mirror.”
Sunak then assured Charles, “We are all behind you. The country is behind you,” prompting the king to reply, “I have received so many interesting messages and cards. It makes me cry most of the time.”
During Charles’ conversation with the Prime Minister, they discussed how the king’s cancer diagnosis has helped put important cancer charities in the spotlight.
“I hear there is more attention and interest in that great major cancer charity, most of which I have [a] patron for many years,” Charles said.
Sunak replied, “They are doing an amazing job all over the country.”
The Prime Minister previously calmed the minds of many by stating that King Charles’ cancer was detected early.
“Obviously, like everyone else, shocked and saddened, and just all our thoughts are with him and his family. Thankfully, this was caught earlier,” Sunak said on February 6 in a conversation with BBC Radio Five Live.

According to a Buckingham Palace insider, Queen Camilla played a key role in King Charles’ recovery efforts, as she was his “strength and stay” as Prince Philip was to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
“He is his strength and remains so [Prince Philip] is for the late Queen. He will be great. He will rally him, he will buoy him. He is amazing. He equips him to do the work he needs to do,” the insider said Daily Mail.
Charles’ cancer diagnosis has also brought him close to his son, Prince Harry, who immediately flew to the UK following the news of his father’s health. Sources said the couple had a “brief meeting” before the King and Camilla were taken to Buckingham Palace, where a helicopter was waiting to take them back to Sandringham.
In a recent interview with “Good Morning America,” Harry seemed to agree that his father’s cancer diagnosis could heal the royal rift, noting that the “disease” brought the family together.
