Family ties are stronger than any scandal, and King Charles III seems to be proving that with his controversial younger brother, Prince Andrew.
It’s no news that the Duke Of York has faced public scrutiny over his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In 2021, the prince was sued by a victim of Epstein’s sex trafficking ring, Virginia Giuffre, who claimed that she had been sexually assaulted several times by the Prince.
Following the scandal, the Prince was stripped of his royal and military honors and kicked out of the royal household by King Charles. More than a year after the scandal, Charles reportedly wants his brother back in the royal fold.

An insider close to the royal family explained that “Andrew will never have the same ceremonial role in the family; he is no longer and never will be a working king. That is clear.” However, the source told The Daily Beast, “But he is part of the family. He is the king’s brother. He has not been found guilty of any crime, and I think it is fair to say that the king made it clear that he would not turn his back on his brother.”
As for Prince Williams driving with Prince Andrew, British biographer Andrew Lownie explained to the news outlet that the scene was “interesting” because the couple had never had a good relationship. He added, “The family has been using the Prince and Princess of Wales to get them out of trouble lately, and again, they’re doing a heavy lifting here, solving a problem not of their own making.”
She continued, “This is obviously a very important occasion, and for William to put aside his objections… to agree to be in the car with him when they knew it was going to be filmed was an incredible development.”
The writer went on to state that the royals must have decided on a different PR plan to bring the disgraced royal home, because before leaving, they had tried to distance themselves from him.
Earlier that year, the former Royal Navy man held talks with the monarch to regain his HRH title. A source claims that there is a strong possibility that the restoration will happen and that the controversial royal intends to use the title with the King’s permission.

“It is likely that he will start using it again in a low-key way to test the waters – if he gets the King’s approval,” the informant said.
Duke of York Tries to Regain Funded Security, And Former Secretary Dame Pitri Patel Backs Him
Days before Andrew’s public appearance with William and Kate, the Duke of York is reportedly seeking to regain taxpayer-funded security from the Royal Family’s Home Office. Andrew’s royal protection was withdrawn after he gave up his HRH title because of the scandal. However, the Duke wants £3m which is funded by the taxpayer [$3.7 million] the bodyguard escort returned.
As for the Duke’s claim, he appears to have the backing of former Home Secretary Dame Priti Patel. He sent an email to Charles’ principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, pleading for a review of the duke’s protection. However, the email to Alderton was leaked, prompting Patel to speak out and apologize to the king.
He said, “It is disappointing that this correspondence has been leaked into the public domain, and I apologize to Her Majesty for the embarrassment and inconvenience that the publication of this correspondence has caused.”
A Royal expert, Ingrid Seward, commented on the leaked emails, stressing that King Charles would be “deeply embarrassed” by the incident. According to Seward, King has distanced himself from involvement in the Andrew issue, and Patel “should know he has no power over this decision.”

Seward went on to lash out at Patel for his “interference”, calling his decision “very unwise and very unfair to The King.” Royal experts ask an important question: whether the public should pay millions for security for “a man who rarely leaves his home.”
