King Charles ‘will never’ fill the late Queen Elizabeth II’ shoes, his ex-butler claims

King Charles “will not” fill the shoes of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, his former butler has claimed.

Grant Harrold, who worked for the king for seven years when he was Prince of Wales, said the King would never have achieved his late mother’s success during her 70-year reign.

“She filled the shoes of the late Queen, and those were shoes that no one else could fill,” Harrold said.

“Not unless you have a reign for those few years, but I don’t think anyone will go back in the history of the monarchy. A king would never achieve such success.”

Even so, Harrold said the King had done an “amazing job” in his first year as monarch and “won a lot of support” from the British public.

“In his own way, he’s doing an amazing job,” Harrold said on behalf of Slingo. “People admire him and respect him as they should.”

“He won a lot of support. I can tell people are happy with what he is doing as far as being the new king,” he added.

On September 8, the royal family marked the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Charles praised the late king, who was Britain’s longest-reigning ruler, in a recorded speech which was written at Balmoral Castle.

The castle, located in Scotland, was His Majesty’s favorite royal residence. It is also where he died on September 8, 2022.

Charles remembers “with love his long life, devoted service, and all that he meant to so many of us.”

“In celebrating the first anniversary of His Majesty’s death and my enthronement, we fondly remember his long life, his devotion, and all that he meant to so many of us,” the King said in his tribute.

“I am also very grateful for the love and support that have been shown to my wife and myself throughout this year as we do our best to serve you all,” the king added.

To mark the day, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, made no public appearances and instead spent the day “quietly and privately” reflecting at Balmoral Palace.
