Kirstie Alley is dead.
The 71-year-old actor died following a short and “recently diagnosed” battle with cancer.
The Alley family shared the heartbreaking news on social media.

In a lengthy message shared on her Twitter, her family wrote: “To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are saddened to inform you that our extraordinary, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered.”

Alley was surrounded by her immediate family and “battled with great strength, leaving us with the certainty of her endless joy in life and whatever adventures lay ahead. Despite her iconic status on screen, she was an even greater mother and grandmother.”

The actor has an incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center.
His family is grateful for their care.
“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her undying joy to create, is unmatched and gone. We are inspired to live life to the fullest as he did,” the letter continued. “We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you consider our privacy at this difficult time.”
The note concluded, “With love always, True and Lillie Parker.”
Her on-screen love interest in several films and off-screen partner, John Travolta, paid tribute to Alley.

He shared a recent photo of himself from the 80s or 90s.
“Kirstie is one of the most special relationships I’ve ever been in. I love you Kirstie. I know we will meet again,” he wrote.
This is the second close friend and on-screen co-star to die this year.
He lost Olivia Newton-John just a few months ago.
They starred alongside each other in “See Who’s Talking,” “See Who’s Also Talking” and “See Who’s Talking Now.”
Like Travolta, Alley is a longtime member of the Church of Scientology.
Alley is an experienced actress with roles on TV and various films.
She is known for her roles in “Cheers,” “It Takes Two” with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson, “For Richer or Poorer” starring Tim Allen, “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and more.
His name immediately started trending on Twitter along with “Look Who’s Talking.”
Travis Tritt paid tribute to the late actress on Twitter writing, “Shocked and saddened by the Kirstie Alley news.”
Carmen Electra shared a carousel oh photo Alley wrote, “#rip to this kind, beautifully talented soul. we love you Kirstie ??.”
Before his death, Alley announced he was doing cameos in funny videos.
“Hiiii, this is Kirstie. A bunch of you have asked me to do this… greetings,” he said as the baby made noises in the background. “Oh, I just had a new baby. I know I’m a little old for a new kid. Congratulations to me, I would say. Anyway, if you want something fun or something sincere, I’ll try to be sincere, but you know like, ‘Hi, I love you,’ or ‘Merry Christmas,’ or ‘I want a divorce,’ whatever you need I sent it.”
