Kwasi Kwarteng was born in Waltham Forest, London, England on May 26, 1975. He is of British nationality and mixed ethnicity. As of 2023, he will be 48 years old. Alfred K. Kwarteng and Charlotte Boaitey-Kwarteng, who had immigrated from Ghana as students in the 1960s, had him as their only child. His mother is a lawyer, and his father works for the Commonwealth Secretariat as an economist.
In terms of education, he started his education in the state primary school. In 1988, he won the Harrow History Prize at Colet Court, an independent prep school in London. He then attended Eton College, where he was a King’s Scholar and received the prestigious Newcastle Scholarship. At Trinity College, Cambridge, he majored in classics and history, gaining firsts in both subjects and twice winning the Browne Medal.
He was a member of the winning University Challenge team in 1995 (the first series after the BBC revived the program in 1994). Kwasi was a member of the University’s Pitt Club while at Cambridge and has since returned to visit. He also received a Kennedy Scholarship from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in economic history from the University of Cambridge in 2000.
