Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski, raised four sons in New York. The Duke player comes from a family of athletes, including his uncle and aunt. Kyle Filipowski, Duke’s 7-foot center, has been groomed to be a major athlete since childhood. His mother gave him and his twin brother, Matt, tough love when it came to basketball. Rebecca, an excellent athlete, is good at basketball. David, the twins’ father, was a college athlete and more tolerant of both his parents.
Kyle has been a standout player for Duke since joining in 2022. He has earned numerous awards, including ACC Preseason Player of the Year honors in 2023.
Kyle Filipowski’s Parents: Meet Rebecca and David Filipowski.
Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski understand what it means to be an outstanding athlete. Rebecca and David have lived the life of an athlete and now encourage their children to be the best version of themselves. Kyle’s mother, Rebecca Filipowski, was a strong athlete at Warwick High School, where she led the team to the 1982 Class B state title. Rebecca, who is 6’4 and plays forward, scored 2,164 points in her Warwick career before entering California State University, Long Beach in 1982.
The squad advanced to the Elite 8, and Kyle only respected his mother’s basketball career. In an interview with On3, Kyle said, “My mom, Rebecca Hagerdon, has accomplished a lot in her basketball career.” He went on to say, “He was a Parade All-American and put a ton of praise on the wall with points and rebounds.” A severe knee injury ended Rebecca’s basketball career.
But his passion for basketball never faded. He may no longer be able to play basketball, but he decided to teach others. He sees it as an opportunity to give back to the sport that has given him so much success. He began coaching Physical Education in the Washingtonville School District in 1998 and remained there until 2003. From 2013 to 2021, he worked as a Transportation Volunteer for the American Cancer Society while serving as a long-term substitute teacher in many school systems.
Kyle Filipowski’s Dad, David Filipowski, Plays Basketball and Soccer
Kyle Filipowski’s father, David (also known as Dave) Filipowski, played NCAA basketball and football at Slippery Rock. His playing career at Slippery Rock began in 1979 and ended in 1981. David met his wife Rebecca while attending Warwick Valley High School. Their blossoming relationship blossomed into a lifelong commitment.
Kyle views his father as his more relaxed parent. David was always willing to listen to his children and raise them to be respectable young men. Their mother was quite critical of the referee while her children were playing. Kyle and his brother quickly learned to take constructive criticism and take their mother’s words with a grain of salt. In short, Kyle believed their mother helped them stay disciplined. The Duke athlete claims his mother raised him and his brother to high standards and encouraged them to reach their highest potential.
Kyle Filipowski’s Family and Ethnicity: Meet His Three Brothers
Kyle Filipowski grew up in an athletic household. Kyle was born in Middletown, New York, and has a white background. The Duke athlete’s parents weren’t the only athletes in his family. On her mother’s side, Randall Hagerdon played basketball at Boston College, and Beverly Hagerdon attended Dartmouth from 1984 to 1988.
His uncle, Randall (also known as Randy), attended LaGrange College and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. Randall is now a Process Engineer with Syensquo and is separated from his wife, Beverly. He has moved in with Rebecca, who can be found on his Facebook page. Beverly has also moved on from her previous relationships. Beverly earned a master’s degree in International Relations from George Washington University after graduating from Dartmouth, and she spent 20 years as a consultant for The International Foundation for Electoral Systems.
Meet Kyle Filipowski Brothers Matt Filipowski
Many people may recognize Kyle’s twin brother, Matt (sometimes known as Matthew) Filipowski. He is currently a student at Harvard University and has attended Wilbraham and Monson Academies. He also attended Fordham Preparatory School for one year and earned All-NEPSAC honors in 2021. Matt led his team to the 2020 NEPSAC AA title and the Elite 8 National Prep Championship, reaching the 1000 point mark.
However, only a few who follow Kyle closely realize that the basketball star has two older brothers. His brothers, Daniel and Taylor, have decided to stay out of the public eye. Daniel is the eldest of four, having graduated from the University of Louisville. Daniel received a degree in Sports and Fitness Management and then attended the University of Central Florida.
He received his MBA from UCF in 2019 and currently works as the NIL Partnership Marketing Coordinator at Raymond Representation. Daniel may not have made a name for himself as a basketball player like his brothers, but still participated in the sport. Earlier this year, he offered to teach basketball camps at Stanford University and the University of Oregon Athletic Department. Daniel is on Facebook, but Taylor has chosen not to use it.
