The starters are chosen by fan, player and select media votes, with fan votes counting for 50 percent and player and media votes each accounting for 25 percent of the vote.
Reported by USA Today, according to the NBA, “After the votes are tallied, players are ranked in each conference by position (guard and frontcourt) in each of the three voting groups. Each player’s score is calculated by averaging their weighted rankings from fans, players and media. The two guards and three frontcourt players with the best marks in each conference are named starters. The fan vote serves as a tiebreaker for players in the same ranking group with the same score.”
