LA homeowner fatally shoots suspect during attempted burglary as horrified child, grandma watch

A Los Angeles homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar over the weekend after a group of men wearing dark hoodies and masks broke into his home – where a child and grandmother were left stunned by the brazen burglary.

Police responded to a Granada Hills home around 5 a.m. Saturday after receiving a radio call about shots fired inside the residence.

The homeowner told police he was inside his home when three or four unknown men wearing “dark clothing, hoodies and masks” broke in, The Los Angeles Police Department wrote on X.

“A suspect pointed a weapon at the victim and while the suspect was inside the residence, the victim pulled out a firearm and shots were fired,” the department wrote.

The homeowner then chased the suspect, believed to be in his 20s, out of the house, the department wrote in a separate statement.

The suspects fled on foot and abandoned the black BMW sedan they arrived in, police said.

Paramedics confirmed the suspect was shot dead at the scene.

Authorities believe one of the fleeing suspects was also injured after spotting blood in the residence.

A grandmother and small child were inside the home, with the homeowner, at the time of the invasion.

The homeowners, who were pictured outside the residence looking handcuffed, were taken to Devonshire Community Police Station for interview, although they were later released.

Neighbors told KTLA they were not surprised by the daring robbery attempt.

“We’ve had thefts every day in this neighborhood,” resident Pat Walsh told the outlet. “So I’m not surprised at all. It has become a real problem. The people here are fed up.”

Another neighbor, who did not want to be named, told the outlet that the robbers were “harassing the wrong homeowner.”

“So hopefully this will deter them,” they said. “It makes me feel good that people were able to protect their homes and stop this guy.”

Los Angeles County Coroner’s investigators examined the victim and found he had two gunshot wounds, and was found to be in possession of the homeowner’s property.

The identity of the slain suspect has not yet been released.
