LA Mayor Karen Bass aids news photographer who collapsed at press conference

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acts to provide medical aid to a passed-out news photographer during a news conference Thursday, video shows.

Bass, a former nurse and physician’s assistant, was welcoming 60 new LAPD recruits who will be graduating from the police academy next week when a KCAL News photographer fell and hit his head, KNX News reported.

“The first person to run to his rescue was the mayor,” said KNX News’ Craig Fiegener, who was standing right next to the shutterbug when he went down.

Although all police officers were present, the mayor appeared to be the only one at the scene who knew what to do, Fiegener said.

He immediately checked that she was breathing and took her pulse to stabilize her, according to the outlet.
