Lady Gaga took to her Instagram page to share a sweet message, celebrating Bennett on his 97th birthday.

Bennett died on July 21 following a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. The famous singer is known for his unique voice and timeless hit music.

“Happy Birthday Tony. August 3rd is Tony Bennett Day,” Lady Gaga began.

“A day to smile. But I will celebrate you more than once a year. Following her emotional tribute to the late legend, Lady Gaga fans took to the comments section of her post to join her in wishing Bennett a happy birthday.

“I send you a big hug, Tony will always be with you, take care and guide you! Now you have an angel watching over you from heaven!! I love you thank you Lady Gaga for being my Tony,” one fan wrote.

She said, “I’ve been grieving the loss of Tony for a long time. We had a very long and effective goodbye. Even though there are 5 decades between us, he is my friend. My true friend.”

Lady Gaga stated that their age difference was never a problem and instead only strengthened their friendship, as they were both able to learn from each other in unique ways.

“Our age difference doesn’t matter – in fact, it gives us something that most people don’t have between us. We’re from two different stages of life—completely inspired,” he wrote.

Although Bennett battled Alzheimer’s in his final days, the icon’s life was always filled with music and joy. A statement from the late singer’s representative revealed that he died while singing his first number one hit, “Because of You,” at his piano.
