Lance Bass Honors Aaron Carter’s Memory With Poignant Mental Health IG Post

Lance Bass continues to pay tribute to the memory of the late Aaron Carter on Instagram.

The former N’Sync member and current TikTok sensation has been paying tribute to Carter on social media since the 34-year-old’s tragic death on November 5. Since Carter’s untimely death, many details have surrounded the former pop sensation’s mental health.

Carter famously struggled with substance abuse and dealt with its grip until his final days.

An unidentified woman had warned police Carter had been struggling with a snorting addiction; a 9-1-1 call made by the unidentified woman three days before Carter was found unresponsive in his bathtub, revealed he had been inhaling computer dust “all night”.

Bass previously discussed Carter’s struggles with mental health and addiction in an Instagram post from a month ago and is now paying tribute to his late friend once again.

Captioning a throwback photo featuring a young Carter on stage with N’Sync circa 2000, Bass wrote a candid note in which he discussed the importance of mental health awareness.

Read on to learn more about Bass’ desire to increase the collective conversation around mental health, and how he plans to contribute to raising awareness!

Bass Writes Touching Tribute To His Late Friend

Bass and young Carter crossed paths several times in the late nineties and early; in her Instagram tribute from November 7, she recalled the first time she met Carter while on tour.

“When I was around 17, me and the guy @nsync stayed in the same hotel as Aaron in Germany,” she began, “He was around 9 at the time. I was in my hotel and kept hearing a little kid running up and down the hall. I opened the door and saw Aaron sprinting, knocking on the guy’s hotel door and pretending to throw up on people. He ran into my room and instantly we were buds…” Bass recalled.

Bass would remain friends with Carter (and with his older Backstreet Boy brother, Nick), throughout the years. As Aaron grew older, Bass described witnessing Carter’s struggles with mental health and addiction.

“Over the years, I have seen Aaron go through so many ups and downs. Through witnessing Aaron’s struggle and having countless conversations with him, I have learned a lot about addiction and mental health. It makes me so angry and sad to know that it got the best of him and unfortunately those who let him turn a blind eye…” Bass would go on to write.

Just over a month after Carter’s death, Bass openly discussed the need for mental health-related education, inspired by Carter’s legacy.

“Since Aaron has died, it has become abundantly clear that he had a severe mental illness, insulting in the inner turmoil he faced in the darkness that came directly into the light,” Bass wrote. “It not only hurts those around him who really care about him, it also allows those who want to exploit him, and they do so without any consequences to use for their gain…” he continued.

Bass then explained how he plans to contribute to underestimating mental health and discussing it openly.

“Now more than ever it’s important for us to educate ourselves about mental health and the impact it has on the people who go through it and the families affected by it,” Bass said. “This conversation keeps coming back up, and it feels like nothing is getting accomplished after years of trying. As a parent, I feel helpless and want to know what I can do to help. What I quickly realized is that mental health starts at home. More children and families need our support to overcome this difficult challenge. They need resources and I’m grateful that @onoursleevesofficial exists to raise awareness about this issue and help break the stigma…”

The On Our Sleeves organization aims to provide “free mental health resources for every community” in its efforts to raise awareness for children’s mental health, according to its website.

Carter’s surviving sister Angel has recruited Bass to help with the next On Our Sleeves event, and fans can get involved too!

“I’m grateful that @angelcharissma included me in this event to help make a difference,” Bass continued in her post. He later told his followers to “join us on January 18, 2023, to help start a conversation inspired by Aaron’s life with some of our closest friends…”

Former “Even Stevens” star and current mental health advocate Christy Carlson Romano expressed her support by commenting with a heart emoji on Bass’ post.
