The singer is currently on a world tour, dropping album after album and lining up support deals around the world. *NSYNC is a giant band that should be making money by handing over fists for them, but they aren’t.

“Well, the worst thing is people think we’re rich because we’re not,” Bass said on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show.” “We are famous but not rich. I made more money after *NSYNC than I did during *NSYNC.”

Bass then kindly reminded listeners that his manager was Lou Pearlman, so there was a need to explain the money issues the five bandmates were having.

In case you didn’t know, Pearlman ran a scam involving most of the male gangs he managed. “Lou [Pearlman] took all our money,” Bass said. The scheme is billed as the largest in American history.

He was accused of mismanaging money and ended up being sued by members of different boy bands, including the Backstreet Boys, LFO, and Aaron Carter are some of the people he claims he defrauded and are also involved in the lawsuit.

The disgraced musician ended up in jail in 2008 and eventually died in prison in 2016. “He took most of our stuff… [made] horrible, horrible offer,” Bass admitted to Cagle.

Pearlman was 62 when he died, and even though he cheated on Bass, he still managed to muster up some grief when he died.

The singer turned radio and TV host may not have the boy band’s hard-earned money, but he admits he’s happy to at least be making memories. He called it an “amazing” time with all his bandmates Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatric, and Joey Fatone.

“To do that with that guy was incredible,” he recalls. “And you have some of the best experiences ever. He continued. “It changed my life, led me to a lot of things that I wanted to do in life… they are amazing, amazing guys.”

Bass refers to his bandmates as “a great support system.” He always knew he could count on them; a family is born. “I’m glad I’m in a band because I have four of my older brothers that you can’t see.”

“If you say anything off the wall, they’ll slap you like, ‘What did you just say?’ But if you’re a solo artist, you’re always like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.’ You are the boss. That’s it,” he said with a laugh.

The band went on hiatus for good in 2002, and while music was no longer Bass’ main source. Earnings, he does not hate singers. Also, he learned how to make money differently in the industry.

He has his own production company and music management company.
