The actor is currently doing press for his Netflix movie You are a Person starring alongside Jonah Hill, Nia Long and Eddie Murphy, she does not play a single mother in the film but she plays a woman who has to be strong enough to overcome society’s judgments and stereotypes to pursue interracial relationships.
The conversation turned into a chat about the reality of life. Lauren Shares exclusively with TheJasmineBrand how that translates to her real life and being a single mom to two sons Kameron, 13 with rapper Lil’ Wayne, and Kross, 6 with the late rapper Nipsey Hussle.

“I’m a single mom, so I want to be very realistic with them. Life is hard,” admits Lauren who lost her partner Nipsey, the father of her youngest child to gun violence. “I don’t want to put everything on the line for them. I want them to be ready for life,” he said candidly on the podcast.

The actress says she bounces between two modes as a mother. “I think I’m a balanced person because sometimes I think I might be too weak, but I have moments where I’m like, ‘Hey, hey, hey, you guys, come on now. Let’s do this together.’ I guess I’m an old school mom.”

He takes time to focus on the good things in life. “My children are healthy, they are happy, and I am healthy. I am here. I have a chance to make it a good day. So I have to say it every day.”
He felt so blessed, he didn’t want to overdo it with the big man upstairs. “My intention is to make the best of what I have. I don’t want to ask God too much.”

In You are a Person, she plays Amira Mohammed a woman who falls in love with a Jewish man played by Jonah Hill, they try to merge their family, but it goes left. Lauren is happy to be able to film in LA and stay close to her children as the important single mother.
“What felt personal was shooting in LA And some of the areas we shot and some of the places we shot. I love that they’re Jewish because it’s also something I was able to learn through being in the movie. which I do not know.”
Plus, he’s had a lot of fun doing it, admitting that he’s been looking for happy moments and opportunities to laugh in life since Nipsey’s death.

The actor lost his longtime partner Nipsey in 2019 when he was senselessly murdered outside his Marathon store. He always makes sure to defend the rapper’s legacy every day but sometimes his fans worry about his well-being.
The actress has always been open about her feelings about Nipsey’s passing and while it was challenging, she said being a mother helped her get through it.
