Former “Glee” star Lea Michelee got some standing ovations for her first performance in Broadway’s “Funny Girl” on Tuesday night. The actress, 36, made a stunning comeback to the stage after a 13-year sabbatical, playing Fanny Brice in the musical revival.
Michele replaces Beanie Feldstein, who left the revival in July. The mother-of-one was overjoyed when she received the news that she had landed the part, and she celebrated the occasion with her closest friends.
Michele added that she received support from her friends in “Spring Awakening,” her last stage performance before “Funny Girl,” and she even had her friends in the audience watching as she debuted the iconic role.

Per Many peoplethe actress said that her “Spring Awakening Group” chat friends flooded her with well-wishes after news that she would be stepping into the headline revival in July.
“Everyone is so supportive,” she said of her Spring Awakening cast members. “I mean, literally, it’s just continued support for all of us.”
Michele carries the support cape throughout the rehearsal and is confident that her friends will be part of the audience when she takes the stage.

“I know Jon [Groff] and John [Gallagher Jr.] will be there,” he said ahead of the show, according to the publication. “So I have all my people. It’s beautiful.”

Per Many people, Michele was overcome with emotion when she received the call informing her that she had been cast as Fanny Brice in “Funny Girl.” At the time, she was feeding her son Ever Leo, who she shares with her partner, Zandy Reich.
“I got a call from my agent that I got the part. I had no idea. They said, ‘You’re going to be Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.’ And when I looked up, I started crying hysterically, and I was like, oh my God.
After an emotional rush, the actress celebrated the news with her best friend Groff with a bottle of champagne. “We just sit in the living room and toast to it. But I also have weekends where we go out together, and we celebrate. So we’ve had this little celebration,” she told the publication.

Two years before her debut as Fanny Brice on “Funny Girl,” Michele faced backlash on social media after she was accused of harassing some of her former co-workers from her hit show, “Glee.” At the time, he issued an apology on Instagram, admitting that he may have acted inappropriately although he wasn’t sure of the situation.
“What matters is that I clearly acted in a way that hurt others,” he wrote on Instagram. “I apologize for my behavior and for any pain I may have caused.”
