Jones, 56, revealed that his friend, Rock, had to seek therapy following the infamous Oscar slapping incident. The former “Saturday Night Live” star opened up about the topic in an interview with People magazinewhere he stated that Rock had a hard time recovering from the experience.

This comes a year and a half after Smith took the Oscar stage and slapped Rock in the face for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. According to Jones, the comedian felt “insulted” and surprised by Smith’s reaction because he meant no harm with his comments.

Following the incident, Rock went to counseling “with his daughters,” Lola and Zahra, who he shares with ex-wife Malaak Compton-Rock.

Jones stated, “The act is disgraceful. It really affected him. People need to understand her daughter, her parents, see it.”

Although he was not present for the Academy Awards that year, the “Our Flag Means Death” actor expressed his dismay at Smith’s reaction to the joke. Jones stated that the news was “outrageous” and made him feel uncomfortable.

He said, “You don’t know that I’m going to jump in my car and roll over there. I was very angry on many levels.”

Jones added that Smith was immature about Rock’s comments because he didn’t mean it in a negative way. He stated, “For so long, I was just angry. Chris Rock was joking.” The comedian, who revealed how close he is with Rock, explained that the blow felt personal.

Rock has defended him in the past and even threw his name out for consideration for “SNL.” He also helped Jones put together his new book, which he plans to release on September 19. He said of the “Grown Ups” cast, “He’s always there to give me the perfect advice when I need it.”

Still angry about the turn of events after Rock’s joke on the Oscar stage, Jones noted that Smith could have handled things better. He explained that the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor should have admitted his mistake and taken things more seriously.

Jones, who was also friends with Smith, recalled saying to himself, “You can’t deal with that after that. This is Oscar. The whole world is watching.”

He added that if he were in Smith’s position, he would “make things right” by calling Rock to publicly apologize and turn down the Best Actor Award, which he won that night.

While he was chatting with Many people, the “Supermarket Sweep” actor stated that he took cover after seeing Smith approach the stage. Jones recalled asking Rock why he stood still and waited for the actor to approach him.

He said, “I was like, ‘Chris, when he wakes up why don’t you run?’ I’d be running around that stage like, ‘Will, take it easy. Jada, call your man!'”

Putting himself in the comedian’s place, Jones explained that Rock might be confused after Smith’s reaction. He stated that it was quite difficult to get on stage and perform a special performance. The comedian’s friend explained that comedy is an escape from the world, and no one deserves to be bullied for it. “Instead of us going crazy, we talk about it on stage. Thank God we got a stage.”
