The actor suffered a broken shoulder and other injuries in August 2020 while performing a series of stunt sequences for the film. After an absence of several months, he returned to the set to continue playing his upgraded role as the main protagonist of the upcoming superhero thriller.
Wright recently revealed that, in addition to his injuries, he had to overcome various physical challenges throughout the production. In the end, he overcame all of them and was very proud of his work in portraying his character in the film.

‘My Experience Was Different’

Talk with New York Times, Wright recounted his experience on set as he made a comeback from an injury he suffered while filming the upcoming superhero sequel. He shared that finally, he was able to offer everything to his role as if he never rested.
Wright said, “My experience was different. There were a lot of physical challenges that I faced as well, but in addition I felt very proud that in the face of adversity, I could rise up and give extra life and strength to my character.”

The actor, who was born in Guyana, went on to explain the difficulties of his healing process but that he eventually succeeded. Regarding the film, Wright hopes that viewers will be able to feel the effort that he and his colleagues put into making it when it is shown on the big screen.
He continued, “The journey isn’t painful, but you can stand on top of a mountain and say you did it. Hopefully, that transfers to the film, and people walk away feeling happy and empowered because that’s what we felt after making it. .”

Letitia Wright’s Absence Filming for ‘Black Panther 2’ shut down

Although Wright initially played a seemingly small role as Shuri, the sister of King T’Challa in “Black Panther,” her return to star in the sequel sees her take on the mantle of the series’ eponymous hero.
Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa – the ruler of fictional Wakanda, lost his life to colon cancer in 2020, and in honor of his work, the show’s actors chose not to recast his character for “Black Panther 2.”
Driven by the need to honor his friends and former colleagues, Wright worked hard to portray his character for the sequel. However, while performing a stunt sequence in August 2021, he broke his shoulder and had to stop acting for a while.

Although filming continued without him, it was later shut down as the production team ran out of sequences that could be shot without him.

Chadwick Boseman’s Memories Motivate Actors

In addition to Wright’s accident, “Black Panther 2” suffered many production setbacks. Despite these difficulties, the sequel is being touted as a fitting follow-up to “Black Panther” and a tribute to Boseman’s impact as the late leader of Wakanda.
Talk with Diversity earlier in the year, Wright shared that the sequel’s cast was motivated to really respect Boseman when production began. Their determination to deliver the best performance in Boseman’s memory played a big factor in helping them overcome the challenges they faced during filming.
“We’re honoring him by committing to this story that he started, this legacy that he started with this franchise,” the actress told the publication. “And we’re just committed every day to working hard no matter what the situation is that we’re in. And we’re in a lot of situations! A lot of difficult situations, but we came together as a team, and we poured everything into this movie, so I’ I excited for you to see.”

‘Black Panther 2’ trailer
Ahead of the film’s November 2022 debut, Marvel recently released an official trailer for the film. The fictional country of Wakanda was once again introduced to fans, and they also got a glimpse of the upcoming storyline that the showrunners have planned.
Shuri Wright and other characters such as Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) were featured in the teaser. It also introduces new character Namor (Tenoch Huerta) – the leader of an ancient civilization of underwater inhabitants, and will star UFC champion Kamaru Usman in an undisclosed role.
Although the teaser has a lot of action and some emotional sequences, it never goes beyond that. Fans will just have to wait to see how one of Marvel’s most popular superhero movies will take a new direction, incorporating new character debuts and returning players.
