At the age of 83, the “Grandma” star continues to make waves in the entertainment industry with her comedic acting skills. Tomlin recently starred alongside her good friend Fonda in the movie, “Moving On.”

During the premiere of the couple’s latest film, ET Online got to ask the Grammy Award winner about her relationship with Fonda. Recalling their first meeting at the Ahmanson, a famous LA theater, Tomlin admits it was love at first sight.

Although the meeting took place several decades ago, the actress could not forget her admiration for her friend’s beauty and sense of fashion. “It really is like a glamor trip. She is very glamorous. She wears a black cape and boots, big high boots, and a lot of hair that looks like that,” the stand-up personality gushed.

“We were all very excited backstage at Ahmanson,” the entertainer continued, admitting that she couldn’t pinpoint the exact year the friends met. “I was doing my show there, like, 73 or something. I don’t remember the year.”

In “Moving On,” Fonda and Tomlin showcase their friendship as they portray the duo, Claire and Evelyn. Their characters mourn the loss of their mutual friend, Joyce, whom they suspect was murdered by her husband.

As the comedian recalls, the old friends first met backstage in 1977 at Tomlin’s one-woman comedy show, “Appearing Nitely.” However, the Tony Award winner had been a fan of Fonda before their first meeting. The “A Prairie Home Companion” actress fell in love with the 85-year-old after seeing him in the 1971 film “Klute.”

Three years after doing things backstage, the duo starred alongside Country music legend Dolly Parton in the movie “9 to 5.” Fonda admitted that it took a year to get her co-stars on board for the film, which was a box office hit.

Working together in comedy films helped the actors forge the lasting relationship they have today. In a 2015 TED talk, the Detroit native explained how the film enhanced their friendship.

“We laughed a lot; we found we had a lot in common. Here [Jane] is, like Hollywood royalty; I was like a tough kid from Detroit; [Dolly’s] a Southern kid from a poor town in Tennessee. And we found that we were so in tune as women,” said the SAG candidate.

The 83-year-old echoed similar sentiments in a 2017 interview, where he said, “We’ve been friends ever since. We are friends because I just love him. I know Jane stands up for me whenever she can.”

Fonda’s feelings for the “Barefoot in the Park” star were divided when the Oscar winner aired her love for Tomlin to Jimmy Kimmel in 2019. In the words of the blonde beauty, “I’m smitten with him. He always says something very funny. I couldn’t believe what a funny bone he had, and I loved him from the moment I saw him.”

“What I really fear is reaching the end of life with so many regrets when there is no time to do anything about it. And that’s one of the reasons I try, I try to finish everything before I get to the end,” Fonda said in a heart-to-heart interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace.

“I’m not the kind of mother I hope my son would be,” continued the Golden Globe Award winner. “I have a wonderful, wonderful, talented and smart child, and I don’t know how to do it.”

The New Yorker noted that she gained more knowledge about parenting through her charity organization, the Georgia Campaign for Teen Pregnancy Prevention. Thanks to new wisdom, the mother of three became more earnest with her children.
