Lionel Richie has a fun grandfather game on lock and even has the name he wants his grandson to call him at the ready.
The family is gearing up to welcome Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge’s first child together just nine months after they tied the knot in a glamorous ceremony in France.

The “All Night Long” singer expressed her excitement over the expected arrival of her grandson as she hit the red carpet at the premiere of her new Netflix documentary “The Greatest Night in Pop.”
“My baby is on the way, and I’m so excited for Elliot and Sophia. They are just over the moon.” the pop icon told ET.
Lionel Richie has practiced throughout his daughter’s pregnancy and is seen standing in their backyard in Sofia and Elliot’s gender reveal video. In the TikTok clip, Elliot pulls the trigger to release pink powder and confetti into the air.

The proud father and grandfather-to-be also revealed that he has no plans to use the usual “grandpa” when it comes to his grandfather calling him. Instead, he chose “pop-pop,” which isn’t as deep as the title “grandfather.”
Just like her dad, Sofia is also excited about her pregnancy as she dropped a key piece of information in a recent interview. The beauty showed off her baby bump in an oversized button-up shirt paired with a pair of underwear as she glowed in the black-and-white snap.
She switched to a second look, featuring a long velvet red coat that showed off her toned stomach as she shared details about discovering her pregnancy. The actor explained:
“I’m about four weeks pregnant. I was on my way to Milan for fashion week, and I went to the Prada show. I did a really quick 24 hour turnaround, and I felt terrible but didn’t think too much of it. I thought it was jet lag.”
On her return to LA, she decided to take a pregnancy test just before leaving for an Ed Sheeran concert with her husband to confirm if it was safe enough to consume alcohol.
“Elliot is used to me randomly taking tests, so he doesn’t get too tickled when I say I’m checking. I took one of those really bad at-home tests, and there was the faintest of lines. I’m so used to seeing negative things that I know when things look different.” explained Sofia.
The actress acknowledged her husband’s support when she was about to take the test and how he reassured her if the negative line appeared.

“When we submitted all three tests at the same time they were all positive. He was very excited, and we both cried,” explained Sofia in describing the atmosphere of the night. “It’s crazy and exhilarating and it’s really hard not to shout it from the rooftops.”

As for the gender reveal, Sofia revealed that they wanted to be surprised, so they asked her assistant to get the gender from the doctor and fill out a party popper, adding:
“He left one that had the right color inside, and Elliot and I put it in together. We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a real surprise. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though]and Elliot is very excited for a girl too.”
On how the couple shared the baby news with their parents, the actress explained to Vogue that they waited until he was eight weeks and then headed to Elliot’s parents’ house which was only five minutes from theirs. Sophia said:
“I think I have a box—I want to say it’s an Hermès box or some kind of box—and I tell everyone I bought it a gift from Milan Fashion Week.”
Elliot added that they put three pregnancy tests from the night of the concert in the box. “Seeing their reaction go from like, ‘I’m going to get an expensive gift’ to like ‘I’m going to get a grandchild’ is so sweet,” concludes the dad to find out how their parents know.
