According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Employers’ Compensation Insurance Company is suing Pump restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump and her husband, Kenneth Todd, to get what they say they’re owed. On or about May 9, 2019, the Employer’s Compensation Insurance Company provided the restaurant with an insurance policy that will run from May 9, 2019 to May 9, 2020, at the restaurant’s request for Workers’ Compensation and Employer’s Liability Insurance coverage. This policy is subject to audit and premium recalculation.

As part of the insurance coverage, the Employer’s Compensation Insurance Company is authorized to inspect and audit all records related to the policy within a specified period of time. The policy also requires Pump restaurants to pay the difference between the estimated premium and the actual premium after the audit, with the final premium determined by the Employer’s Compensation Insurance Company.

An audit review was done and found that the information provided by the restaurant was inaccurate. They reported that the actual total premiums and fees for the policy period in effect for the policy was an additional $279,806.00, which became fixed or pre-determined on August 28, 2020.

On May 23, 2022, they filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court. In the case of The Employers Compensation Insurance Company v. PUMP LLC, it was decided on October 3, 2022, that the Pump restaurant owes the insurance company $338,656.43. The court also ruled that post-judgment interest would accrue at a daily rate of $92.75 per day beginning October 3, 2022.

Now, the Employers’ Compensation Insurance Company is seeking a judgment, order and decree directing that the Property, in its entirety, or such percentage as the Court may determine, be used in satisfaction of the Judgment under Code of Civil Procedure $708,280.

They also seek a money judgment “under the Code of Civil Procedure of $708,280, for the value of the Property, or PUMP LLC’s interest therein, or rights thereto or proceeds thereof, or the sum necessary to satisfy the Judgment ($338,656.43, together with interest at the rate of $92.75 per day from June 8, 2021, less credit for payments made, as well as the cost of enforcing the judgment), whichever is less.”

On May 4, 2023, Lisa Vanderpump revealed that she will be closing her signature Pump restaurant in West Hollywood. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce that the lease at Pump Restaurant is expiring, and we will be closing its doors on July 5, after 10 years of wonderful nights under our olive trees,” he said in a statement to PEOPLE magazine.

“While we loved our time operating the Pump, taking on another 10-year lease with a large rent increase by the landlords is not something we are prepared to commit to,” the statement continued. “After successfully running 37+ establishments over the years, this type of rent is untenable.”

The opening of the two restaurants in Las Vegas was first announced in March. At the time Vanderpump told PEOPLE, “We’ve been at the Pump location for 10 years, have a good relationship with the landlord,” noting that they’re “talking about resigning our lease in the next few months, but haven’t made a decision and will open tonight, and come and get a Pumptini.”

“We are also expanding our empire and will open two more restaurants with Caesars Palace,” he added. That’s not the only restaurant that Lisa runs. She and her husband Ken Todd also operate the SUR restaurant in Los Angeles.

They also opened a Paris-themed restaurant in Las Vegas called Vanderpump à Paris, which joins the Vanderpump Cocktail Garden. According to a press release, the Bravo star’s restaurant was designed by her partner, Nick Alain, and was inspired by where she and her husband lived in France for nearly a decade.
